Finally sitting down to recap this weekend! Had a great time at the Bluesteam Classic Show and was able to bring home Reserve Best of Show on a White Bearded Silkie Pullet!

Thanks to Jacob Bates for your evaluation! And thanks to all the show crew who made this show happen, this show will definitely be a new regular! It is so nice to have another show in the area. Very nice show with great facilities!

Had a wonderful day at the Fall Missouri State Poultry Association yesterday, always a highlight of the year especially for Cochin turnout. There was 17 varieties and two non standard varieties of bantam Cochins present with a final total of 118 present, in a class of 267 Featherleg with 5 breeds represented.

After preparing and showing 41 Cochins and Silkies, another Missouri State Fair in the books!

Was able to bring home:

4th consecutive Best of Show (5th out of last 6 years) with Bantam Black Cochin Pullet

Best Trio with Bearded White Silkies

Reserve Feather Leg with Bearded White Silkie Pullet

Reserve Display with Bantam White Cochins

MSF is always a highlight of the year and did not disappoint. Congratulations to all the winners!

One of the F2 “Columbian” cockerels from working to try isolate the Columbian pattern out of pop outs in different matings from 2022/2023. Pop outs came out of silver penciled mating, silver penciledxwhite mating, and (blackxwhite)xwhite mating. They were not 100% Columbian but carried a close resemblance. Now just seeing if possible to isolate the pattern without outside blood. Ways to go, but an intriguing project!

Sorting through Silver Penciled pullets today from fall hatch. I think I’ll keep these!
