Dr. Scanlon and Potato's story:
I was contacted by an amazing coworker at Marina Bay, Lenny. She told me about a pug that was found looking for a foster home. At the time, I wasn't sure if we were ready to replace our heart dog, Lexie (a 12-year-old boxer) who had passed away this year. However, after a meeting with our 3-year-old daughter, we knew the pug needed to be a part of our family. The pug had significant lameness in her left rear leg, and X-rays revealed an old femoral head/neck fracture with significant arthritis and hip dysplasia and showing signs of nerve deficits.
An FHO (femoral head osteotomy) was performed, and it has been a long road to recovery. Due to nerve deficits and significant muscle atrophy in the limb, it has been difficult to regain function. She is undergoing daily physical therapy, including a range of motion exercises, stairs/ramp work, etc. It's a slow process, but we are getting there! She will likely need a boot on this foot long term due to her nerve deficits, but we couldn't be more in love with our newest family member. My daughter has chosen her name: she is now called POTATO. Our sweet, loving Potato has become a great fit for our family. She and my daughter are best friends, and she loves our family cat as well.
