How do you know if your dog has an aural hematoma?
Your dog's ear may appear swollen as a result from excessive scratching or shaking of their head. Some hematomas may resolve on their own, and some may need more medical care.
Addressing the root cause of an aural hematoma, such as an ear infection or allergies, will help treat the issue.

Did you know? Isaac Newton invented the cat door!
“The scientist is most famous for calculated gravity, but it’s also believed that Isaac Newton invented the cat door. How Stuff Works writes that when Newton was working on his experiments at the University of Cambridge he was constantly interrupted by his cats scratching at the door. So he called the Cambridge carpenter to saw two holes in the door, one for the mother cat and one for her kittens! Apparently these holes can still be seen at the university today.”

“I am the resident cat lady. I was brought on to the team in July 2021, when our clinic celebrated being open for one year. I’m brand new to the veterinary field, having spent the last 11 years in management in the coffee industry.
My husband and I were married on October 2nd, 2021, and live in south Overland Park with our three feline children.”
“My career started when I was 17 years old as a kennel assistant. From there, I worked my way up to become a Veterinarian Assistant and continued to grow professionally over the past four years.”
“I began my journey in Veterinary Medicine when I was 14, working at a local Kansas City kennel. Over the years, I have continued to develop skills in both technical and client communication.
Now as a Technician Assistant (a technician in training), I can assist in exam rooms, work in the lab, answer client questions over the phone and assist with care for hospitalized patients.”

Animal Health Center of Leawood is a dream turned reality for Morgan. From the time she could speak, Morgan has wanted to be a veterinarian. She is excited to create a veterinary hospital where her patients and clients can be treated like family.
Morgan Matile Wilcox grew up in Bucyrus, Kansas. She attended Blue Valley High School. Her participation in Johnson County 4-H fostered her love of animals from a very young age. She was able to raise cattle, hogs, and sheep. During high school and college, she spent her breaks from school working in different veterinary clinics and animal shelters in order to learn as much as she could about veterinary medicine.
Dr. Wilcox graduated summa cm laude from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. She then graduated summa cm laude from Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine with a DVM. After graduating from veterinary school in 2015, Dr. Wilcox worked as an associate veterinarian in the Kansas City area until the opening of AHC Leawood in 2020.
Morgan lives in Prairie Village with her husband Nick and son Lincoln. They have one dog Tuff who is a 16-year-old wheaten mix. They also have a cat named Hester that they rescued and bottle raised. When not at the hospital, Dr. Wilcox enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets. During her free time, she can be found hiking, biking, practicing yoga, and baking.
How are we keeping everyone safe during COVID?
We are committed to providing the best care for your cats and dogs while keeping staff and clients as safe as possible. Below are some of the many steps we are taking to protect you:
At this time, we are scheduling one appointment every hour. This allows us to provide the most comprehensive care and thoroughly disinfect between clients. This also means only one client will be in our hospital at a time.
We offer curbside service if requested. You can stay in your car while we treat your furry family member. If you do not wish to come inside but would still like to watch the exam, our exam room has a window that will be disinfected between each visit.
In order to protect you, all staff members will be wearing masks at all times and sanitize/wash hands thoroughly as needed.
Hand sanitizer will be provided for all clients to use upon entering and exiting the building.
