200 cats and kittens in Tennessee are about to be spayed or neutered and vaccinated in honor of Alley Cat Allies’ Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day--October 16! We're proud to support two incredible organizations in their National Feral Cat Day Actions.

On October 15, New Leash On Life - Home of The JOY Clinic in Lebanon will spay or neuter and vaccinate 100 cats and kittens.

On October 16, Sumner Spay Neuter Alliance in Gallatin will spay or neuter and vaccinate 100 more cats and kittens.

Other needed veterinary care and, for community cats, eartips for identification as part of will be provided at both events. Cat and kitten food will also be available, and Alley Cat Allies will be on site to support it all.

We'll keep you updated throughout the big days! And, we encourage advocates around the world to hold their own National Feral Cat Day Actions. Learn more at GlobalCatDay.org.

"HAY is for HORSES, STRAW is for STRAYS!" 😻

On your next trip to the garden center or farm store, pick up a bale of straw! It's inexpensive, will last you a long time and the perfect bedding for your cat shelters so the kitties stay warm and cozy overnight. Always use STRAW -- and here's why:

✅STRAW is tough, thick, dry leftover stalks from crops. It's lightweight and golden in color. Straw has a hollow center which makes for great insulation. Straw will reflect body heat back to a cat as well as repel moisture.
🛑 Hay is green and heavy. Hay is typically used to feed animals, like horses. It absorbs moisture, making it damp, cold and uncomfortable for cats and has the potential to get moldy. Do NOT use hay (or blankets) for bedding in outdoor cat shelters.

👉For an easy way to remember which to use…
"Hay is for Horses, Straw is for Strays."

You can easily find and buy bales of STRAW inexpensively at your local co-op, farm/ag supply store, local garden center/nursery, Home Depot, Lowe's, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware or local landscape supply. Farmers who sell pumpkins often sell bales of straw, too.

Our next monthly Low-Cost Vaccine and Microchip Clinic will be at Movement Lounge, By Yoga Muttz on Saturday, August 24th! The first 100 attendees will be able to receive vaccines, microchips, deworming medication, and flea/tick prevention for their dogs and cats thanks to your local donations and a generous grant from the Banfield Foundation! 🐶🐱⁠

Vaccines are $15 each: Rabies, DAPP, DAPPL, Bordetella, and FVRCP.

Microchips are $10.

General Deworming Medication is $5.

Flea/Tick Prevention (lasts 30 days) is $10.

• Located on the lower level in the Donelson Plaza.
• Serving the first 100 pets (dogs and cats) to arrive. ⁠

This is Casper. His mom brought him in today to get neutered. He is what you call a Munchkin. He had the shortest little legs and was so sweet!

This story is one reason we push for owners to microchip their pets! Simon Here came in a humane trap to be neutered. We found out that he was already neutered and when we scanned him for a microchip, he HAD ONE!!! Luckily, it was registered and we were able to find his family. He had been missing for 3 years!!! We’re so happy that he’s back home with his family!
