A little long but please read‼️
Since putting my sign up I have received a ton of calls and messages which is good. However, because I only do this part time, I'm not able to get to everyone. I will have to turn people down. My family and my full time job of 17 years will need to come first. I knew that we had a demand for grooming in this area so I was somewhat prepared and that is why I set guidelines. Please keep in mind that I only do small breeds (under 20lbs) and that is for two reasons. One, I am almost 50 years old and my back can't handle lifting large dogs. Second, I don't have the equipment to accommodate large dogs. I knew from the beginning that I could not do large breeds so I didn't purchase the type of equipment to do so.
Another reason I may need to turn down a new client is due to severe matting. All dogs get matted a little. Even my own boy schnauzer who has cotton like hair mats so easily. I brush him daily and when he wears a belly band (diaper) due to my girl being in heat, I shave his belly to prevent matting. I know it can happen but if the mats get severe, the only option is to shave them. Mats are very painful to dogs. Think about what it would feel like to have your skin pulling every time you walk or when your favorite person picks you up to be loved on 😞 Its very painful to them and hurts my heart to try to get the mats out. After a while, they can get frustrated and bite. That is no fault of the dog. They are in pain and I don't blame them at all. I'd probably bite someone too! So if you get a dog that needs groomed regularly then please remember that brushing in between grooms is so important. A little matting is completely normal and most of the time I can get them out with a grooming comb and some cream rinse or worst case, your dog may have a few bald spots if they have to be cut out. There is difference in a small amount of matting and severe matting. Today I had the sweetest girl that has the same hair as my boy schnauzer and she did have a little matting because she wears a harness but it was nothing I couldn't take care of. She has a great family who takes good care of her hair. She just has a lot of hair. Now, I said all of that to say if I encounter severe matting, I will have to cancel the appointment for two reasons. One, I'm not experienced enough and the chances of hurting a dog or myself getting bite is a lot higher. Two, it takes a lot of time to groom a dog in that condition. I made a commitment when I started this that I would not keep dogs no more to two or three hours, preferably two. I will only have your dog in my shop and all of my attention is devoted to the dog I'm working on. The next appointment doesn't come in until that one is finished and gone. I really do love grooming so I have to set guidelines in order to continue doing it. Also, if you have called me or text me about an appointment, I promise I will get back to you!
