I’m sad to say that I will no longer be grooming. As much as I love it, I just can’t do it with the health problems I’m having. When I started this new adventure almost 3 years ago I planned everything meticulously but I failed to think about the physical challenges of starting a grooming career at 50 years old. In order to make a living at grooming and the expense of keeping a salon open, you need to be able to groom several dogs a day. I’ve not been able to do that for a while. I’ll be the first to admit I’m OCD and picky about a lot of things especially my quality of work. It’s a blessing and a curse at times. I take pride in doing the best job I can. I don’t want my quality of work to suffer because gripping my grooming tools is painful and some of the positions I need to get in to groom is too painful for my neck. Grooming is physically hard. Imagine cutting a toddlers hair all day 😃 Not all are like that but probably 90% are. Don’t be fooled by the TikTok videos that show dogs sitting still on a grooming table. I promise you they hand pick which dogs they show. I wish I had started grooming when I was much younger because I do love it. It doesn’t feel like work unless I’m in pain. I have some amazing customers that have become friends and that’s probably the hardest part of letting go. If you are one of the few that have a future appointment booked with me, I will honer that. I won’t leave you hanging! Even if I have to recruit Todd or Ellie for baths. However, I will not be booking future appointments.
I do have some good news! I will transition to a new business in my shop. I will be offering Tiny Tailz Boarding for small breeds only. My Grooming shop will be converted into a boarding facility that will treat your fur babies just like they are at home. They will have their own personal area with playtime and potty time. Of course spots will be limited and my handyman/husband has a little work to do. Boarding will be much less physically demanding on me and will allow Ellie and Todd to help me with the business. While also allowing me to utilize the building that we have put so much money in. Not to mention all the work Todd has put into it. This area has such a need for boarding facilities and I look forward to helping fill that need just a little, very soon!
