When I was growing up, maybe about 8 or so, I had a goal to become a pet sitter. No joke. My older neighbor, who was a big part of my childhood, and much like a grandparent, used to think it was ridiculous and thought I needed better goals, which she told little 8 year old Megan. I did not listen! While some of my goals and ideas about where I wanted my life to go throughout the years has changed, I have always stuck with pet sitting. I have been doing it for friends of family members and people I know since I was a child (under my mothers supervision at that time of course). My neighbor had printed an article when I was about 15 in the paper. About a pet sitter who was running a very successful business. She laughed when she showed me, because she knew I was right, it is possible to have a passion to care for animals and turn it into a career you enjoy doing everyday. While I may not be quite at that level yet, nor am I sure I will ever be, I have always had a passion to care for animals. Please take your (human) children with you! ;)
As far as experience goes, other than what is said above, I volunteer with a rescue group, helping to re-home MANY dogs in the few months I have been helping, (One More Dog Rescue) I am a foster for them, meaning I care for the pups while they wait for their forever homes, while residing in my home, as well as bring them and other dogs within the group to vet appointments or back. I have 4+ years experience at dog kennels, where I was an assistant manager, someone who had to make quick judgement calls for the pets and interacting with the pet owners in various situations. I feel it proves in a way how responsible of a person I am and trustworthiness, for a business to hire me for that position, and be there for many years. Due to changing dynamics and my drive to learn new things, I have recently found a new, more stable and close to home job. Also by doing this, I am able to spread my wings and give this pet sitting thing a whirl yet again! At this time I am not able to walk dogs during the week between 8 and 5, but am able to do over night care in either my home OR yours, as well as drop in feedings or potty breaks.
I do highly recommend Candlewick Kennels, but when they are booked up, or you have a pet that just does not do well boarding, or is a farm animal that they will not accept (LOL!) please feel free to send me a message!
Let me know how I can help you and your pets!
