Has spring sprung? Hard to believe with this extreme cold but this week LVH has seen (and smelled) MANY cats for spay/neuter! If you don't know what an intact male cat smells like...feel lucky! It is a lingering, ammonia-like smell that attracts females. Let me tell you- it DOES linger! We are seeing signs that the females are receptive, and the males are trying hard to attract them. Please spay or neuter them so we are not inundated with unwanted kittens in the coming months. Save a life-spay or neuter your pets!

Today at LVH, we lost our good friend Leo. He had been struggling with Pemphigus, which is an autoimmune disease that affects skin and mucous membranes. If you had seen him recently, you would know something was wrong. From his painful feet and ears and the infections that followed, he had been struggling. The docs had been brainstorming and took turns treating, bathing and tending to him along with our loving staff. Leo finally lost his appetite and energy. Today, we lost him. Please join us in your thoughts and memories of him and here are some photos to remind you of all he was to all of us.

Does anyone know what a bezoar is? Think Harry Potter…or veterinary medicine! Well, now a class of Lyman High juniors and seniors learned yesterday during their visit to LVH! Any guesses? I’m not sure FB will let me post a picture- or that you’d want me to but feel free to ask Dr Z to see it the next time you are in for a visit- he’s very proud of it!!!

(Post #1: Poinsettia Safety – Post any day this week)
🎄🌟 Are Poinsettias Safe for Pets? 🌟🎄
If you’re decorating for the holidays, you might be eyeing a festive poinsettia plant. We know some plants, like lilies, are seriously toxic to pets - so what about poinsettias?

Here’s the good news: while poinsettias are technically toxic to cats and dogs, they usually cause only mild, non-emergency symptoms. 🌿🐾 The sap in the plant can cause irritation or rash-like symptoms. If your pet takes a nibble, they might experience:
Red or itchy skin around the mouth or eyes
Excess drooling
Vomiting

✨ How to Stay Safe:
👉 Keep poinsettias out of reach of pets to avoid any temptation.
👉 If your pet swallows leaves or flowers or has persistent or serious symptoms, contact your vet immediately.

With a little caution, you can safely decorate your home with these beautiful holiday plants—just make sure your pets admire them from a distance! 🐕🐈💚

In the spirit of Thanks and giving...please remember our wildlife friends. LVH has long facilitated donating non-poisoned humanely dispatched rodents to our raptor rescuers. To say we keep a freezer full of mice and rats may sound strange but to our wildlife rehabilitators-they are a gift. If you use non-poison means to control rodents AND are sure they are fresh, please put in freezer safe Ziploc bags and bring to us. The owls, hawks, eagles will thank you! Happy Thanksgiving!!🦉🦅
