Arthritis is one of the most common ailments affecting middle aged to senior dogs and cats. It can be a source of chronic pain and negatively affect their quality of life.
The most obvious sign of arthritis is a limping dog or cat. However, there are numerous other subtle signs that may indicate your pet is uncomfortable.
Some signs for dogs can include "slowing down", having a harder time getting up stairs, or just staying in one area of the house instead of following you around from room to room.
Signs for cats present differently than dogs. Cats with arthritis may start urinating or defecating out of the litter box because it is too painful for them to jump into it. They may also have a harder time jumping up onto their favorite windowsill or their other favorite napping area.
Dogs and cats that maintain a healthy weight are less susceptible to arthritis pain. Having your pet at a healthy weight reduces the stress that the body places on joints and helps keep things moving like they should. Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements are also something you can put your pets on to help keep healthy joints (we recommend dasuquin with MSM).
If the above methods don’t do the trick, then it may be time to discuss starting pain medication with your veterinarian. Joint disease should be addressed on multiple fronts in order to make your pet as comfortable as possible.

Chip's owner knows just how important puppy vaccinations are. Puppies younger than 16 weeks should receive their first dap vaccinations between 6 and 8 weeks of age, then two more boosters 2-4 weeks apart. Dogs older than 16 weeks with no previous vaccination or an unknown history should receive two dap vaccinations 2-4 weeks apart.

This helps protect your dog from canine parvovirus, which is very serious and can be fatal. The virus attacks white blood cells and the gastrointestinal tract in dogs. Canine parvovirus is easily spread by direct contact with infected dogs, contact with f***s from infected dogs, or contact with virus-contaminated surfaces.

Signs of parvovirus include:
Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Vomiting
Severe, often bloody, diarrhea

The 5 Second Rule: Put the back of your hand on the pavement, if you cannot hold it there for 5 seconds it is too hot to walk.

If your dog is panting heavily within a few minutes into the walk, your dog is giving you a big warning sign it is too warm and it’s time to go home. Overheated dogs can suffer heat exhaustion, heat stroke or sudden death from cardiac arrhythmias. Panting, followed by disorientation and fast, noisy breathing could signal overheating. Other possible signs: Collapsing or convulsing, bright red or blue gums, vomiting and diarrhea. If you notice any of these signs, please call your veterinarian right away.

Please do not keep pets in hot cars. The temperature inside your vehicle can rise almost 20º F in just 10 minutes. In 20 minutes, it can rise almost 30º F...and the longer you wait, the higher it goes. At 60 minutes, the temperature in your vehicle can be more than 40 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Pets kept in hot vehicles are also at concerning risk for heat stroke.

Always keep plenty of water on hand for your pet when taking them on walks or having them outdoors in the hot weather. Remember, if you're not comfortable, chances are that your pets might be even more uncomfortable than you.
