Every rider this weekend achieved and grew!

Lucy and Remmy have been a team for 2 years now and she has worked so hard on slowing down this energizer bunny of a horse for western discplines. This weekend she walked away with a 1st in her age divisions Western and Ranch Pleasure with her Morgan/Standardbred mount! She walked away with 1st and 2nd in her horsemanship classes!

Kymber & Adalyn got to share Ford (a new Morgan gelding in the Dark Horse program) for the weekend for the "first open show" experience! They showed how much they've grown as riders to show a much more green horse then either of their regular mounts are! And walked away with placings in multiple classes including a 2nd in Equitation!

Sydney and Natalie both shared everyone's favorite pony Dreamer! I am so proud of Sydney's first English show with us! She won her English Pleasure Class on Sunday and had multiple placings throughout the weekend! She has worked hard on those diagonals! Natalie rides with Dark Horse Inclusion and got to go into multiple classes with multiple wins this weekend as well with Miss Lindsay!

Jaime joined for this show to help coach the girls with Ford and show him in English! Lindsay jumped in with her guy in some of the ground classes! And I played with him in the fun classes! He was enjoyed by all the adults this weekend and showed his potential!

Only 3 more shows left in the season, but we have fun events at the barn to look forward to including the Halloween Party and Cross Country Day!

This week Grayce & Kerley left us to continue growing on her horse journey!

I have always told students as they reached the point where they're ready to be challenged by a different trainer or higher level of competition, I would help them transition to a new barn. We found a barn with tons of new opportunities for Grayce to grow!

A little about this team:

Grayce has been a student since 2019 and through 2 barn moves and 5 leased and owned horses before partnering with Kerley.

Kerley has been training with me since 2017, with a year off in 2019. He has also stayed with through 2 barn moves and 2 owners, his original breeder and Grayce.

This team holds a special place in my heart, I have gotten to watch them each grow and go beyond what they even thought possible.

I am wishing them all the best and the team will see you guys at shows out and about! You will be missed, but this isn't goodbye, this is have fun on your new adventure!

Butler County Open Show 2024!

It was a very long and hot day, I didn't get nearly the photos I normally do, but thankfully a show mom grabbed this picture!

The show was full of learning experiences and had some ups and downs.

Chloe learned a valuable lesson on feeling your horses mood and when to scratch a class. She took a tumble, but recovered and is back at it for fair this week!

Syndey got to experience large classes and that we don't win every show. Put down a fantastic horsemanship pattern with Dreamer though!

Kaelee got to do her Jumper classes in the arena she will be in next week for Butler Co fair as well as brush up her trail in hand skills.

Kymber went for one last ranch class with Misty who is taking a step down from stressful-to-her open class shows. She had placings in most classes she entered even with a stressed out pony!

Lucy had a fantastic show! Her first offical canter show with large classes and her and Remmy acted like a team, it was great to watch!

Thanks to parents for sticking it out in for the long LONG hot day!

DLSC Saturday Hunter/Jumper Show! Very proud of Kaelee and Maddie, fantastic Teamwork this weekend with their ponies!

This was Maddie and Storm's first show together and only their second jump show each ever! Great behavior and each class just got better and better!

Kaelee and Remmy went out there and did their thang! Remmy proved he is worth his weight in gold for those Jumper classes, cool as a cucumber with all the energetic horses around him. A third bc of a bad takeoff in 2' but 2nd and 1st in her 2'3" and 2'9" classes!

Yesterday we met a new English Instructor, today we don't have a new face, but she's taking on a dynamic new role in the barn!

Grayce Clark

Grayce is no stranger to Kommon Sense, having been a student since 2019! She's gone from leasing to owning her own horse and showing off her skills on the show team! She's competed in Western Dressage, Western Pleasure, Showmanship, Halter, Ranch Pleasure, Horsemanship, Ranch Riding, and more over the years with Kaitlyn!

Early this year she started to do more then just competing, Grayce put in the work to become an Assistent Instructor and is taking on Western students of her own! Talk about a talent for Western disciplines and a passion for horses!

She's got availability for incoming students of all ages, so saddle up and let Grayce show you the ropes!

We've got not one, but two amazing additions to our English program! 🎉

Meet Jaime Lay!

Jaime has an extensive background in competing and training Hunter/Jumper. She began teaching with us early in the year while Kaitlyn was on maternity leave and now we're thrilled to have her joining us as a staff Assistant Instructor, dedicated to helping our new English students succeed. Contact us to schedule a barn tour to meet Jaime and the ponies today!

🌟 And guess what? We've also welcomed a new pony to the family - As The Thunder Rolls aka Storm! 🐴

Storm is a 15.3 (not exactly a pony 🤣) appendix gelding with a lifetime of experience to bring to the table. He joined our barn as one of our "golden oldies" and has begun teaching our English students alongside Jaime and Kaitlyn!

Here is Jaime and Storm from the Hunter/Jumper show the English team attended last month!

Over the weekend Chloe and Maverick got to compete in their first dressage show together! Bringing home a 1st and a 2nd and gaining a ton of confidence! It was so nice to see Mav in the dressage world again, they will be competing at fair this year in multiple discplines including dressage!

Things have been a little exciting around here the last week. We have a new future rider in the barn!

Liam E. Hyde arrived on his due date 2/27/24. He is going to have all is mama's attention for a little while and then Kaitlyn will return from maternity leave 👶❤️

Lindsay, Grayce, and Jaime are continuing to teach lessons for everyone while Kaitlyn is out on leave and getting to try a bunch of new things if the pictures are anything to go off of. Huge thanks to them and the other instructors coming in to teach while Kaitlyn is focused on baby!

Enjoy some Liam cuteness and we will return to horses shortly 👶🐴

Snow won't keep us down!

We welcomed Kelsey Duff from Second Star Horsemanship out for an afternoon of lessons, most of which were accomplished before the mammoth snow flakes ❄️ took over!

And Maddie and Bailey were too pretty of models to not snap some photos while I was out at the barn❤️, even if Bailey was "over it" with the snow quite quickly 🤣

Kiss your lesson horse this week ❤️🐴

Kiss your lesson horse this week ❤️🐴

Thank your lesson horse

In this industry, we all too often see the average lesson horse viewed as lesser than or below other horses. Yet, they have the hardest job of any horse.

They do not complain when an unbalanced first time rider mounts for their lesson. They are a calming force for the most timid of riders, promising safety and security. They are patient and kind, allowing riders to grow and evolve in a safe space without fear of making mistakes.

They take the brunt of your “bad day” emotions, without complaint, even though the negative emotions should not be taken out on them in the first place. They would have every right to not perform or act out, yet they are gracious enough to be a shoulder to cry on.

They have the remarkable ability to sense your insecurities and needs, and provide you with the exact ride you need for the day. To teach the lessons you need in that moment, lessons you didn’t even know you needed to learn.

Even on the frustrating days, “when the lesson horse isn’t listening,” they don’t take your accusations to heart. They continue on with their masterful plans to instill humility, critical thinking, and grace in their partner - and you will finally understand that they’re always listening, and they’re always right.

And when you finally graduate to your own fancier horse, take a moment to think of all the lesson horses who brought you to this milestone. They gave you the knowledge, ability, and skill to be where you are right now. And they gave you their heart and soul in the process.

So next time you see a lesson horse, thank them. Give them a pat and a peppermint, a warm hug, and a promise to treat them with respect - for they are the backbone of this industry, and the foundation for all future equestrians.

Update on the mini dude who has been the most recent to learn the liberty ways!

This was his first time off lead and trotting! I was so proud of how engaged he became, he still gets very confused about backing, but he really tried when asked for that sidepass for the first time at liberty!

He is going to get a break here soon while I'm on materity leave, but today was an exciting session!
