Did you know that leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease? That means that humans can also contract it.
Leptospirosis is now considered a core vaccine for our canine pets and is highly recommended to have done, regardless of living situation or lifestyle. If infected, it can be life threatening to both us and our pets.
Typically you’ll seen an increase of spread after a hurricane of flood, which we see a lot of here in our county, but it can even be seen in dry areas.
Remember that we have walk-in vaccine clinic Monday-Thursday 9-1 and 2-4. Get your canine family vaccinated, keep them safe. ♥️🐾
📢 Veterinary Professionals: Key Guidelines Update
A committee of original AAHA Guidelines task force members has voted to recategorize leptospirosis as a core vaccine for all dogs starting at 12 weeks old.
This significant update to the 2022 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines reflects growing evidence that:
✔️ All dogs are susceptible, regardless of environment
✔️ The disease carries high mortality risk
✔️ Human health is also at stake due to zoonotic transmission
