The City of Groton Police Department wants to thank everyone for their assistance. So far, this has lead to the identification of a subject of interest. The police department will be following up with leads that have been sent in. The case remains active and anyone else with additional information is asked to contact the department at (860) 445-2451.

News Release City of Groton Police Department

On 01/18/2024 at approximately 6:07am, the Groton City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a car versus pedestrian accident, which had occurred on Benham Ave. near the intersection with Forest St.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who had suffered injuries as a result of the accident, and who was later transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The vehicle involved in the accident had fled from the scene prior to the pedestrian being found by members of the community who stopped to render aid and summon help. The injuries were non-life threatening, and the male was reported to be in stable condition at the hospital.

The Groton City Police Department is requesting assistance from the public in identifying the vehicle involved. Anyone who was traveling in the area at the time, witnessed the accident, or noticed erratic driving from a vehicle in this area is asked to contact the police department. Additionally, anyone having a camera which may have captured the accident, or moments before or after the event, is also asked to contact the police department.

The investigation is active and being handled by the department’s detective division.

The name of the pedestrian is not being released at this time.
