Summer has arrived!!!! 🔥☀️🔥And, it's going to be a hot one here in the KC area!🥵 Don't let your pets succumb to heat stress or heat stroke! 🐈🐕

Remember that your furry family member's body temperature run's a lot warmer than people and they can't cool themselves the safe way people can. What feels comfortable to us, is hot for them. What feels hot to us is already too much for your pet!

If you have a brachycephalic pet (bulldog of any kind, pug, boxer, rottie; ie - smashed face breeds), then they're at an even greater risk of heat stress and heat stroke

Keep them inside or make sure they have access to a cool shaded area. Limit walks to early morning (6-8am) or late in the evening (730pm or later). Make sure there is access to clean water at all times and shade of outside. Limit potty breaks outside to 10-15 min (or shorter if possible).

Meet Dr. Conklin! 👋

Dr. Conklin is a St. Louis native who got her start in veterinary medicine as a kennel assistant. She earned her Animal Science degree with a Spanish minor and went on to graduate from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 (M-I-Z!).

Before landing in Kansas City, she worked in Las Vegas and McAllen, TX. She enjoys preventive care, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. Outside the clinic, you might find her skydiving, practicing martial arts, or hanging out with her wife and their pets. 🐶

We love having her at KB Animal Clinic, and so do all the furry patients!

Dr. Conklin just finished surgery on a dog with an Aural Hematoma which happens when blood builds up between the skin and cartilage of the ear usually from head shaking or an ear infection. 🐶
