Please bring pets inside during these dangerously frigid temperatures. Pet potty breaks outside should be extremely short and supervised. 🐾

Chema wants to wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR! Chema is one of our latest FIXED pets!!

Fix’em KC’s mission is to reduce the homeless animal population in Greater Kansas City by subsidizing spay/neuter surgery for pet owners who cannot afford those surgery costs on their own. It is also to financially assist community cat caretakers and trappers with the cost of spay/neuter for TNR, (trap, neuter-spay, return), and to create more accessibility for low-income families to area veterinarians through our network.

In 2024, we fixed over 1,000 pets including both community cats and owned pets!

You likely know that spay/neuter is the key to reducing cat and dog overpopulation. Too many litters of unwanted animals means roaming cats and dogs on the streets, as well as overcrowding in shelters. We are in desperate times which equates to desperate decison making. Shelters are euthanizing animals not only for behavorial or bite reasons but because there is no space for them. Animal Services on both sides of the statelines are having to leave animals in need behind. This is not because they want to, it is because there is no space. Shelter workers are forced to make decisons on who lives and who doesn't. Imagine that. This is taxing on staff and volunters. Dogs and cats are simply not designed to sit in a kennel for weeks, months or years, when they do, many of them deteriorate rapidly in the loud and stressful shelter environment.

These issues continue to burden our community:

-Dogs and cats can go into their first heat and have their first litter any time after they are six months old (four months for cats).

- Cats are seasonal breeders and will continually go in and out of heat from March through September.

- Dogs go into heat every six months.

- Allowing your pet to live without having spay/neuter surgery, and then allowing its puppies or kittens to live without the surgery can lead to more than 67,000 homeless dogs in six years and more than 11 million homeless cats in nine years.

We ask for your support and donations to curb pet overpopulation. By giving a gift, you can save so many lives in Kansas City, by simply preventing future litters. We invite you to join us by generously making a year-end donation.

We hope you are united with us in solving this problem for our community’s animals. They deserve better.

With gratitude,

The Fix’em KC Board

Finnegan/Willow’s story and how Fix’Em KC assisted another family!

Finnegan was just shy of 5 months old when his mom got him from the breeder.

“When I was leaving with Finn, they told me to tell my mom, Happy Early Birthday". Whatever that meant? The following day when I went to fed him…..I opened his food and realized 😳 there was $100. Mind you, I already had 2 dogs of my own. I wasn't happy nor surprised. But what was one to do?

However, shortly after getting Willow, I became sick. I practically live at KUMED. The last thing I needed was another puppy. I no longer worked, I had only my mom to rely on. It has been hard and the breeder knew this. But because she thought we were so great with Willow..that we needed Finnegan. Would have been nice to have been asked. As I see it, God has a plan.

Finnegan is ALOT of work...but he learns from watching Willow and so that helps. But what happened was..he needed everything. Everything I simply couldn't provide. He had the longest worms in his system, he had no vaccines, he had been living in a large filthy home with a empty gross pool that had such bad bacteria in it..yet was allowed to run and play in it. Wayside helped with deworming and getting shots and microchip. But what was I to do about getting him fixed? That is also a expense I simply couldn't afford. I came across Fix’em KC and applied. I will tell you, it was like winning the lottery. I cried, my mom cried and was so relieved when we took him to has his procedure and they told use that you all paid for his service. Finnegan, in more ways than 1
was sent to us...and he is not our only rescue. Because he simply is a rescue dog. I simply can not thank you all enough for all you did to help Finn out. To help support another animal from continuing to make more. My neighbor also took on one of Willows liter mates when the breeder couldn't take him to a new home. Some people should stop and think before thinking breeding is a good thing. We love Finnegan, and even on his worst days..he is still so hard to be upset with!!”

Please consider a year-end tax deductible donation to Fix’Em KC so that we can assist more families like these!!

GivingTuesday is a day dedicated to coming together for important causes in our community like Fix’em KC!

Fix'em KC has spayed and neutered 951 animals so far in 2024 and we have several weeks to go! The breakdown equates to 651 owned pets (340 dogs and 311 cats) and 300 feral cats. We can only imagine how many countless litters of animals these surgeries will prevent. In addition, the coalition we are in with nine other, local animal welfare groups, (Spay Neuter Collaborative of KC), has fixed over 800 more pets this year alone. Spaying and neutering is how we significantly decrease the number of homeless animals in the months and years to come.

We welcome your help! Please make a tax-deductible donation to Fix'em KC. 100 percent of your gift helps struggling families afford low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for their pets so we can decrease the number of animals born into an already-overflowing system. So many perfectly healthy animals are put down at shelters due to there being too few adopters. All shelters, "No Kill" or not, have to make horrible decisions each day on who stays and who goes.
The very best way to prevent these heartbreaking decisions is to simply prevent more litter.

Where your donations go-

Moose was found at a KCK motel. He had no chip, no tag and no collar. We estimated him at around 6 months old.

The staff at the motel found a wonderful family for him however they did not expect or budget for another pet. They needed monetary assistance with his vaccines, microchip and neuter. This is where we come in!

Last week, we sponsored all vetting for Moose! He is now in his furever home with people who love him.

Please make a donation so that we can fix more pets like Moose!

Our Story

Friends of KC Animals (FoKCA) is a small, all-volunteer charity that responds ot veterinary emergencies, offering compassion and assistance to homeless animals and struggling pet owners who have nowhere else to turn.

In addition, we advocate for humane policies, promote responsible pet ownership, reduce pet homelessness through funding spay/neuter surgeries, and support plant-based eating. FoKCA helps all animals, regardless of species, but works most often with domestic pets. Individuals can apply for aid, and if approved, be awarded a portion of treatment costs, paid directly to our veterinary partners. *Please consider donating to our small, but mighty organization today. We are a 501c3 so all gifts are tax-deductible.* Please visit FriendsofKCAnimals.org to make a credit card or PayPal donation, or mail payment to 4741 Central St. Box 348 KCMO 64112.
