Happy Last Wastewater Wednesday. But never fear, As quickly as it's leaving, Water Wednesday will be here.
For our last post we'll learn about the Analyzer as promised. We'll start by asking why this machine is necessary? Permit required nutrient testing is completed in the lab. Three different tests measure two different nutrients. The nutrients tested for are Total Phosphours (TP), and total nitrogen using NOX (nitrate, nitrite), and TKN (total kjeldahl nitrogen). It is important nutrient levels in the effluent are within permit requirements. Elevated nutrient levels can quickly have negative effects on ecosystems, like algal blooms.
Next we'll ask how the analyzer works? It mixes reagents with prepared samples in chambers. The reaction produces a color, the machine reads the absorbance level of the color, and assigns it a numerical value based on a calibration scale, giving a nutrient value. Pretty simple right?
Thanks for the interest you all have taken in wastewater over the past year. I hope you enjoy learning about the process behind cleaning your drinking water.
Leaky Toilet
If you are a business owner and your commercial toilets are running constantly, or take an unusually long time to flush, then you may have a leaky toilet.
It’s important to know where the shutoff valve is on your commercial toilets so that you can shut them off in case of an emergency. And if you are a customer, and notice this at an establishment, notify an employee. Watch the video for a demonstration of what a leaky toilet could look like.
