Week 2 of training!

Tessa is nailing those off leash skills. She no longer tries to run and hide. She's gained so much confidence and comes running right to her handler even with distractions.

Tessa has spent the last week taking time to adjust to the training facility and its staff. She's clearly found a favorite 🥰

They say she's still timid but is opening up like little Onion. 1 layer at a time.

Tessa embarks on a new journey today! Through the generous donations from so many, Tessa will be our first fully trained adoptable rescue.

That's right! Over the next 3-6 weeks Tessa will be with a trainer to help her adjust to home life. She will learn confidence, social etiquette and obedience both on and off leash.

This is a service FHRQ hopes to continue to offer to anyone interested in adopting a rescue.

I'm saddened to share that Tessa is back at FinalHour ResQ at no fault of her own. While her adoptive family enjoyed her they decided they did not have the time to work with her and help her adjust.

Tessa is with her previous foster. She appears to be happy, she's eating just fine, climbing the stairs and playing with the other dogs. We will hold her to ensure she does not feel like she's being tossed around but we will start taking adoption application for her. She will be available for Meet and Greets starting May 17.

Tessa will need time and patience to help her adjust and feel safe. Adopters who have prior experience with adopting and experience with working line dogs would be preferred

How it started vs how it's going with rescue Tessa!! She's definitely gaining confidence and being playful. She's mastered walking on the vinyl flooring and is continuing to hoard everything 🥰

She's scheduled for a trial with her potential furever home on Sunday. I'm sure she'll win them over easily.

The outreach and support has been truly amazing. I feel so blessed to be a part of a community so willing.

❤️‍🩹INCOMING❤️‍🩹
The angel here is 'Tessa'. She is a stray found in Georgia that was due to be euthanized on Monday. FHRQ, along with volunteers in Georgia, will help transport her here to VA to save her life.

She is a very timid dog as you can see so there will be a 2-3 week hold as we allow her to decompress and learn how to feel safe. She will need a loving hand and a handler familiar with the breed preferred.

Once she arrives and we do an eval we will have more information and pictures to share. If you are interested please reach out.

Butch is still looking for his furever home. 😞 He's funny, spunky and spirited for such a little package. He loved playing with the other dogs at the dog park today and stood his ground like he thinks he's a Great Dane 🤣

He's working on leash behavior and is still a little timid around men but with a little love and a safe space he will be a perfect addition to any home.

Butch is Billy’s current foster friend. He arrived at on a rescue transport from Kentucky last November. He is a sweet guy who is about 2 years old, neutered, house broken, and walks great on a leash.

Rescues can be the weirdest yet cutest, cuddly, and loyal animals. The transition from a shelter into home life can be very traumatic. That's why we need FOSTERS!!

A foster home can help a shelter dog shed those layers of fear and abandonment and really help them open up. Which helps in their adoption options.

Take Lexi below for example. When she was coming out if a shelter and into a foster home she was petrified of almost everything. Now look at her. Just a derpy weirdo who loves to be snuggled.
