Oh deer! This young doe found herself in a spot of trouble on a frozen pond in Ashburn. Thankfully a kind community member noticed her predicament and gave us a call. Chief Brosan and Humane Law Enforcement Officer Fremerman responded to the call.

Chief Brosan suited up to make his way onto the ice to reach the doe. With some careful maneuvering, he was able to assist the doe back to the bank. We’re happy to report that the doe was unharmed and seemed pleased to be back on solid ground.

While ice may appear solid, it is important to remember to never walk on frozen bodies of water. The ice can be extremely thin and break without warning. Learn more about staying safe: loudoun.gov/FrozenWaterways

"Guys! They named a snack after me!"
-Cheeto

Cheeto is a connoisseur of views and snacks. From his favorite window perch here at the shelter, he enjoys a top-tier pastime: judging your snack choices. (Pro tip: Off-brand chips are a no-go. 😹)

Ready to meet this snack aficionado in person? Swing by during adoption hours, 11am–6pm Cheeto can’t wait to critique your treat selection!

😻We love microchips!😻

A routine day at a mechanic shop in Sterling, VA took an unexpected turn when a couple of mechanics found a surprise guest—a cat tucked inside the engine of a car they were working on! They might have been startled to discover a cat, but acted quickly to get him safe, secure and scanned for a microchip. Thankfully he had one!

With the microchip information in hand, the finders contacted us, and we were able to trace it back to Norman’s family. His owners were overjoyed to get the call. Norman was an indoor cat and had gone missing five days earlier during the snowstorm in the Great Falls area. As soon as they heard the news, his family hit the road to bring him home.

While waiting for his family, Norman received a clean bill of health from our veterinary team and plenty of love. Thanks to his microchip and the quick, thoughtful actions of his finders, Norman’s story had a happy ending!

😺Please microchip your pets! Even indoor-only cats like Norman can find themselves in situations where having a microchip is critical to getting them home! LCAS hosts low-costs clinics every month - our next clinic is Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 9am-11am and microchips are free for Loudoun County pets!

Meet Keno! This scruffy lil’ charmer’s got more personality than your Aunt Barb at karaoke night and a heart as big as a double quarter pounder with cheese. Don't let his doodley-good looks fool you, Keno’s not just a dog; he’s a GO rocket, a four-legged adrenaline factory ready to rock.

Toy expert? Oh, buddy, he’s the foreman of the squeak department. Puzzle pro? He’s cracked more mysteries than a true-crime podcast. Adventure enthusiast? He’ll have you running, hiking, and questioning your cardio choices in no time.

Keno’s lived with kids before, and while he’s a fan of the little humans, he’d do best with ones who can match his energy and keep up with his zoomies. With Keno, anything goes—mouth, paws, or whatever else he can use to keep the game alive—this puppy plays like a puppy! We think with some positive coaching he will quickly continue his journey towards MVD (Most Valued Dog) and he comes with a full month of free training.

Think you can hang with Keno’s level of GO? Well, lace up, buttercup. Swing by the shelter and let’s see if you can keep up with this top-tier good boy.

Today is National Motivation and Inspiration Day, and we’re thrilled to share the inspiring story of LCAS alum Lulee!

When Lulee first arrived at our shelter, she weighed over 75 pounds—almost double her ideal weight. Simple activities like walking were a challenge, and she needed frequent breaks. Playtime was out of the question. But Lulee didn’t give up. While in our care, she embarked on a health journey, attending swimming classes and gradually increasing her activity levels.

In September, Lulee found her forever home, and her new family embraced her health goals wholeheartedly. Today, Lulee is thriving! She loves playing with her dog siblings, splashing in the doggie pool, exploring the yard, and, of course, snuggling with her family. During a recent visit, her family shared some incredible news: Lulee has reached her ideal weight and is now active, playful, and full of joy all day long!

Way to go, Lulee! We’re so proud of you and grateful to your amazing family for giving you the love and support you needed to reach this milestone. Keep shining, Lulee—you’re an inspiration to us all!
