Friday means and ! 🎓

Morris “More” Anderson is a 9 year old Border Collie who has been coming to VSCR Leesburg to treat a disc rupture and spinal injury that occurred in March. Under the care of our new rehabilitation doctor Dr. Nandita Fernandes, Morris has been coming in regularly for hydrotherapy, acupuncture and laser therapy to help with his recovery. We’re happy to share that over the past couple months, he’s improved significantly and his muscle mass is symmetrical again! Yay!

Our rehab team would also like to acknowledge that his mom deserves an award 🏆
for being consistent with helping Morris do rehab exercises at home in-between visits with us, to get him back to being “More” 💚💚💚

More was able to graduate from our rehab program last week, and we couldn’t be more proud of him. CONGRATS BUDDY!!!

So proud of our rehab practitioner Kirsty Oliver and her huge heart for helping kitties using her rehab skills 😻😻😻

Who’s got two paws and a smile that’s sure to bring you joy today? This guy! 🐾😍

Hunter is a 12 year old Australian Shepherd who has been coming to VSCR for rehabilitation sessions to help with recovery for a right TPLO performed in March. He is such a sweet boy and our rehab team loves working with him! We look forward to getting him comfortable and back to being his happy, active self! 💚

Friday means and ! 🎓

Grommet is a 6 year old Australian Blue Heeler who participated in our Synovetin OA tarsal study led by Dr. Krysta Bailey! Grommet was injected with Synovetin OA in April of last year, and has been coming in regularly for rechecks/ rehab visits with Dr. Bailey and the rest of the VSCR team. He was a great candidate for this study as he had been showing signs of recurring inflammation and lameness in his ankles (tarsi) due to arthritis in the joints.

✨ Synovetin OA is a one time injection used to treat canine osteoarthritis that lasts up to one year of inflammation and pain relief! We are proud to continue offering this service at our Vienna location, for any joints in cats and dogs! Contact us to see if Synovetin OA would benefit your pet! ✨

Grommet has responded well to Synovetin OA, with consistent muscle mass gained in both hind limbs, more flexibility, and no longer showing any signs of pain or inflammation. He has been as active as ever, taking up to 5 mile walks with his owner and back to enjoying life! Thank you for helping Dr. Bailey with her study, and for coming to see us at VSCR Vienna! We’re so proud of you — great job, Grommet!! Follow him at 💚💚💚

: Meet Frankie, a 4 year old Frenchie 🐾 who was seen by our friends at Hope Advanced Veterinary Center’s Emergency Department earlier this month for respiratory distress, vomiting and regurgitation due to brachycephalic airway syndrome with aspiration pneumonia and lower airway disease, which is common in brachycephalic dogs such as French Bulldogs. Her condition worsened to a point where she had to remain intubated and stay on the ventilator 🥺

She was transferred to be seen by our ACVS board-certified surgeon Dr. Julia Hawthorne at VSC Vienna for Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) corrective surgery, folded flap palatoplasty and laryngeal sacculectomy — all of which will help Frankie breathe much better on her own and get back to living her best life! This is a photo of Frankie resting with our LVT Elias 💤

She was seen yesterday by our team for a recheck and suture removals — she’s healing very well at home and looking great! We’re rooting for you, Frankie! 🧡

Lulu says, “May the 4th have been with you!” 💚🐾

(We know, we totally missed an opportunity for May 4th — but better late than never, right? 😂)

Meet Lulu, a 6 year old Bulldog who has been coming to VSCR Leesburg since February for rehab sessions to help with her left hindlimb lameness. Her goal is to get stronger and regain muscle mass in her rear legs!

Her rehab practitioner, Kirsty Oliver, has been working with her through hydrotherapy in our underwater treadmill and land exercises with the rehab team! Lulu LOVES coming to rehab — almost as much as the rehab team loves her 🥰

Keep at it, Lulu! You’re amazing!

Our patients give the sweetest cuddles of all time 🥰

This is Kaylan, a 2 year old Great Pyrenees who’s currently being fostered through the National Great Pyrenees Rescue ! She had a right femoral head osteotomy (FHO) revision performed by Dr. Anke Langenbach in March. Shortly afterwards, she started rehab sessions with VSCR Leesburg and has been LOVING her visits with us!

Here she is taking a little snooze 💤 in our rehab assistant Adam’s lap while getting dried off after a great water workout in our underwater treadmill! You’re doing great, Kaylan! 💚🐾

We have some EXCITING news! 🎉🎉

As you know, VSC Vienna currently occupies the 2nd floor of the Hope Advanced Veterinary Center at 140 Park Street SE, and we also provide surgery & rehabilitation in the lower level of the adjacent 124 Park Street SE building. We have now opened the main level (Suite 100) in the 124 building, as well!

Dr. Anke Langenbach has already started seeing appointments in our new clinic this week, and she’s looking forward to performing surgery in the sparkling new operating rooms. We hope this will prioritize for even more patients in our community to receive the surgical care and assistance they need.

But wait — there’s more! ✨

We also have a brand new MRI scanner in this new space, which means that we’ll soon be offering MRI scans (in addition to CTs) for imaging! Our new neurologist, Dr. Daniel Cuff, will be overseeing all scans in Vienna for the next couple months. This new service will provide a new standard of veterinary care for our patients with exceptional precision and detail, resulting in quicker diagnoses and less invasive treatments.

Stay tuned for more updates! 🧡

We spent this past weekend at the West Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (WVVMA)’s Annual Meeting, held once again at the beautiful resort! Our very own surgical LVT Paige, who works at our VSC Vienna location, gave two great talks on orthopedic surgeries and soft tissue surgeries. Thanks to everyone who attended our talks as well as visited our booth! ✨

Friday means and ! 🎓

Daisy is a 3 year old Golden Retriever who came to AECC at The LIFECentre Emergency & Specialty Veterinary Care at the end of last year for a left thoracic limb fracture. Dr. Jim Taylor and our VSC Leesburg team performed an open reduction, internal fixation and left radial fracture repair in December. Since then, she has been coming to VSCR Leesburg for rehabilitation sessions with Dr. Nandita Fernandes, our new rehab DVM! ✨

Daisy has been doing so well with land exercises, hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill, heat packs and massages! She’s feeling much better and has fully recovered from her surgeries. She graduated from her rehab program with flying colors last month! Congrats, Daisy! And a huge thank you to Daisy’s pawrents for treating our rehab team with Starbucks ☕️ They appreciated it so much 💚

It's Friday, and you know what that means:
and ! 🎓

Meet Lady, a 3 year old German Shepherd who was initially seen by our friends at for right sided lameness and “popping/clicking” sounds in her joints. She was referred to VSC Leesburg for surgery — specifically, a right elbow arthroscopy, right ununited anconeal process (UAP) fixation and a right distal ulnectomy with Dr. Jim Taylor in November.

UAP is a common abnormality found in large breed dogs. This causes a small part of the bone on the ulna, or forearm (called the ‘anconeal process’) to be unable to fuse properly to the main portion of the ulna, which leads the elbow joint to be unstable and cause pain, lameness and inflammation. Thankfully, surgery helps in this situation by fixating the anconeal process to the ulna for improved elbow alignment, stability and weight bearing 💪🏼

For Lady, the surgery was a success! Since then, she has been consistently attending rehabilitation at VSCR Leesburg! Rehab has been so vital to her post-operative recovery and care, as this helps her with strengthening, flexibility and overall comfort. Through laser therapy, massages and home exercises with Dr. Cameron Weber and the rehab team, Lady now has a stable elbow once again WITH a full range of motion! Great job, Lady — we’re so proud of you! Congrats on graduating from our rehab program!! 💚

We had so much fun!!! Hope everyone can join again next year 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Friday means and ! 🎓

This is Billy, a sweet 10 year old Shepherd mix who was referred to us by . Billy had been playing outside in the backyard with his housemates when he started showing signs of lameness in both hind limbs, and even had trouble using the stairs. He was diagnosed with a CCL tear. Back in December of last year, he came to VSC Vienna where Dr. Anke Langenbach performed a right TPLO with medial meniscal release. Since then, Billy has been coming to VSCR for post-op rehabilitation treatment, and he’s been doing great!

Through consistent weekly sessions of laser therapy, warm compresses, massages and land exercises with our team, Billy has recovered beautifully from the surgery and officially graduated from our program last month. He is back to romping around in the backyard again! Congrats, Billy — play safely out there 💚

✨ We also want to mention that a huge part of the success with veterinary rehabilitation is contributed not only to the work done at our clinic, but also because of the exercises that pet owners do at home with their pets! So thank you Billy’s dad for being an awesome owner and helping Billy get better! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

— we feel ya, girl 🐾😂

Say hello to Bambii, a 4 month old Labradoodle puppy who was referred to us by Seneca Hill Animal Hospital for left forelimb lameness after jumping off the back porch. Radiographs showed that she had a distal lateral humeral condylar fracture, so she came to VSC Vienna for a fracture repair with Dr. Anke Langenbach and our resident Dr. Jory Clark!

This photo was taken before surgery — she was just hanging out in the baby bjorn, in need of some snuggles before going into the operating room 🧡🧡 Surgery went smoothly and she’ll be back to her playful self in no time! Get well soon, Bambii!

Happy Friday! We received the sweetest message from one of our long time rehab clients this past week -- we just had to share 🥹

"The VSCR PT team has been nothing short of amazing with both Oliver & Sawyer! In fact, Oliver is doing so well, he may graduate at his next visit!!! Sawyer is able to return to PT now that we are successfully treating his IBD. Kirsty has him on the path to less inflammation & pain in his hips and back.

I wanted to thank you for sending us to Kirsty & VSCR Leesburg when Oliver broke his toe a few years ago. They helped him thru that injury and into recovery, just like they are doing with his Achilles. And now with Sawyer and his hips. We are so appreciative and grateful for them!!! They treat my boys like their own, celebrate their successes, work thru and fix their problems. And do so with such skill, dedication, care, laughter and humbleness. They are truly amazing in every way!!!

Here’s the A Team - with my best boys - ALL SMILES! Absolutely love this team ❤️❤️

Hope you are doing well!
Sincerely, Mark, Beth & the boys"

Thank you so much, Polansky family 🥹 It's these moments that truly motivate our team and give them a reason to come into work everyday with a fierce determination to continue providing the best veterinary care possible to our patients 💚

Pictured is our awesome rehab team: Kirsty, our rehab practitioner extraordinaire with Christine, LVT, and vet assistants Adam & Alex -- all smiles with the Polansky siblings! 😍

Pepper says it’s the perfect weather to stay cozy and snuggle up (with extra treats, of course!) ☔️🐾

Pepper Matheny is a 6 year old Pit Bull mix who was seen by Dr. Kim Christie from our VSCR Vienna rehab team earlier this month. Pepper had been in the backyard and ran back into the house, when she slipped on the floor. The next morning, she worried her hoomans by limping on her left hind leg and not bearing any weight on it 😢

She was confirmed to have a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear, so she came to VSC Vienna for a left stifle arthroscopy and left TPLO surgery with Dr. Anke Langenbach, Dr. David McChesney and Dr. Christie as well. She did really well during the surgery and is recovering nicely at home! ✨

Our staff couldn’t help but to take several photos of sweet Pepper sharing some post-op cuddles with her emotional support puppy! Get better soon, Pepper! 🧡

: We’d like to introduce our newest addition to the surgical team — Dr. Stitch DePaws! ☃️ He is currently waiting to take his board examinations but assures us that he has plenty of experience in the operating room. As you can see, he’s getting ready to scrub in for his next procedure. He requires that the temperature be set to -15 degrees at all times; he says the frigid conditions helps him to perform those TPLOs more efficiently ❄️😜

Shoutout to the VSC Leesburg team for building this lil guy during the snow day we had earlier this week!

We hope everyone enjoys the snow with their pups and kitties. Stay safe out there! 🧡

Juneau Hambrick is a 5 year old Labrador Retriever who came to VSC Leesburg last month for a low grade cutaneous mass cell tumor scar revision/ left flank fold with our surgeon Dr. Julia Hawthorne, resident Dr. Meg Goodale and intern Dr. Lydia Chang! He’s been doing fantastic since then!

Here he is posing outside the exam room with our vet assistant Suzanne.
Psst: If you zoom in, his jammies say “distinguished gentleman” on it and we love that for him 🧡
