Tana Baber and I had a great weekend at Morven Park Willie had trouble on xc but put in a great dressage and sj round. Tana and Simco crushed the very challenging xc with no issues, so proud of the progress this pair has made this year!

Rascal was really good boy sitting in second after dressage, an unlucky rail and a green stop knocked him down but I feel so positive about his future career!

Today we lost our best girl.
Lulu first crossed our path almost 12 years ago as a severely neglected and used as a baby factory. Madi was given the opportunity to pull her into rescue and save her from what would have been certain euthanasia. After 6months of socialization she came to our Reston home For a "sleep over" and well, she never left 😂
After that moment Lu took on several roles at the farm. From chief of security, making sure all possible strangers were thoroughly checked for snacks. To the summer swamp monster, blasting through the bushes and pond water spooking horses during turn in 🤦‍♀️.
Lulu had a mothering instinct like no other
It didn't matter what species that baby was, it was hers and you couldn't tell her otherwise. She helped raise countless orphaned kitties. And even the occasional bunny. The first time Melissa came to the farm, she was only 6 days old. It was instant love and Lulu took her under her wings immediately.
But I believe my favorite memory was when we lived in the house in the woods. Lulu had her very own matching kitty, his name was Lector. Every day after long hours at the farm we would return home to see his little Grey face waiting at the door for his doggie. Without fail, Lulu would flatten him as she blasted through the door. He never seemed to mind and after dinner he would spend the rest of the night with her face in his paws making sure she was completely clean after a days work. However the rainbow Bridge may look, I'd like to think there were two big gates and a gray and white kitty waiting to greet his girl, who was then promptly flattened with love 🖤
Today there was a hole left in our home and a bigger one left in our hearts. Lulu has been there through every growing pain of the farm. She was the first dog Madi rehabilitated on her own and the best Au Pair any foster mom could ask for. Raising orphans won't be the same without her.
The world is a bit darker without you, but we hope you have your whole wardrobe over the Rainbow 🌈 we will miss you Crazy Lu, Lumie, Princess Lu

Leon was an absolute star scoring his best dressage yet, and jumped fantastically! He has found his groove over fences his confidence has improved so much!

The day didn't go totally to plan but Roxy did tackle her first Novice and while xc needs confidence her dressage was the most rideable and she had a fantastic clean sj!

09/16/2024

We had 2 packed trailers and the students made me just as proud as the horses, Emily Burnham and Pi did a fantastic job earning up for their fall horse trials. Jess did a great catch ride on River having only ridden him once before! Miranda Van Hemert-Hartsock jumpped her first sj course with Cruiser and worked through all third horse show nerves!

The event horses came off summer break with a nice warm up CT at Hunt Club. My horses were all feeling spicy in dressage but they jumped fantastically! Looking forward to the fall season! Leon felt strong, Roxy made a step up to novice, and Theo jumped his first course out in the world!!

Yesterday we said farewell to a very special member of our herd.
Thunder has been a resident of Chapel View since before we owned it. During the transfer and throughout many growing pains. His owners always supported the farm and knew we were doing the very best for not only him but all of the horses.
Thunder was our original "Mob boss" the manner enforcer of all the young and sassy geldings who needed reminding how to act in the fields. When our Pi was a young stallion, he was full of sass. Pi would run and buck, causing all the horses to excite and follow his lead. Thunder was NOT having those shenanigans during his grazing time. He would herd the trouble maker into a corner. Forcing them to respect his authority, with his ears pinned and head low like a snake. "If you couldn't behave, then you couldn't have the freedom of the paddock." Funny enough, he never hurt them. More gave a very stern talking to 😂. A few years ago, Thunder stepped down from his role as the "time out king" and handed the torch to River, who now keeps those same rules in place today.
Although Thunder has been retired for the better part of a decade, he was still such a big part of the family. He was so good for all of our girls to spoil. Many of them would stay late after their lessons to bathe or brush him. A few even learned how to clip on him because of his great manners. Thunder also had a cheeky side. He was front and center in the barn and was such a tattletale at feeding time. It didn't matter what time it was. If he saw one of those orange buckets, he was letting the whole barn know food was coming. But hands down, my favorite memory just so happened to also take 3 years off my life.
It was a crisp and foggy morning. Thunder was ALWAYS the first one at the gate for turn in. But this particular morning, he was nowhere to be found. I grabbed his two field mates and brought them in. Returned to his paddock..... still no Thunder. I called, shook grain, but couldn't see anything through the thick fog. My heart was not prepared for what i assumed I was going to find. I carefully searched into the fog, still calling his name, hoping he would call to me. Nothing... I was about to call in a search party when I saw him. Not only was he completely fine. He was glued to the fence line flirting with our neighbors' mares. 🤦‍♀️ This studdish turd said he would skip breakfast, his favorite part of the day, to whisper sweet nothings at the ladies 😂
A few years ago, Thunder began developing some age related issues. He managed so well through a cushings diagnosis and then EPM. His owners never hesitated when it came to his care. If ne needed something, he got it, right till the very end. So yesterday, on this beautiful and sunny day, we lay our sweet Tundie, Thunder struck, or Thunder nugget to rest at the perfect age of 32. It's been an honor to care for you for the last 10 of those years. We hope the big grassy fields are full of well-mannered field mates. See you over the Rainbow Tundie 🌈
