RETIRING TRAIL HORSES NEEDING GOOD HOMES!!!
How many times have we, who value horses, complained when we see people just cast aside their horses when they are no longer useful to their original purpose?
Here is a chance to help someone who is NOT doing that.
I’d like to introduce you to 7 horses that are not able to be used in a commercial trail riding outfit, but whose owner refuses to just send them away to auction or slaughter.
These horses still have great value to him and his wife, but need a different home where they will be loved and appreciated by their new families.
Here they are:
Lucy
Lucy is a chestnut grade quarter horse mare who stands about 14.2-14.3 hh. She is about 8-9 years of age. Lucy needs a home where she can bond to her owners, and where her rider is confident in the saddle.
Her strengths: She is very sweet natured. Loves attention. Rides nice. And is great for trails, alone or with friends. Neck reins and plow reins.
Her weakness: Her rider has to be a confident rider. She is very sensitive to her rider. She will sense someone who is nervous and that in turn makes her nervous as well. She can ride at an advanced beginner level IF her rider has an undaunting attitude towards riding.
Brownie
Brownie is a beautiful brown quarter and Tennessee walker cross mare. She is about 14 hh. And approximately 15 years old. Requires an intermediate rider.
Her strengths: Brownie is an incredibly smooth ride. She is a great trail horse. She is fully neck reined.
Her weaknesses: She absolutely can not work off of any leg pressure. No feet! Without quiet feet, she will rear. She also can not be ridden when she is in heat. Super moody during that time.
Gizmo
Gizmo is a chestnut grade quarter horse gelding. He stands about 14.2 hh and is approximately 15 years old.
His strengths: He was a tri state barrel horse. He might still be able to barrel race for the right owner. He is good on trails. He is wonderful in a herd situation and is very sweet with people.
His weakness: not for beginners. Has to have a confident and intermediate rider.
Snowball
Snowball is an adorable white welsh type gelding pony. He stands about 11 hh. He’s about 12-14 years old.
His strengths: Snowball is so very sweet! He would make an amazing family pony for a family with young kids. Absolutely loves people and attention. Would make a great lead like pony. Rides nicely and easy to catch. Will stand forever to be loved and groomed.
His weaknesses: He needs a hard sided fence. He will go through wire and electric fencing. He is also only for a light rider and light riding. He has water on the knees. To help him feel good he can take a glucosamine supplement, and it’s available over the counter at feed stores like tractor supply.
Cheyenne
Cheyenne is a cute paint pony gelding standing about 12-13 hh. He is about 12 years old.
His strengths: Cheyenne rides nice. He would be good for an advanced beginner or intermediate rider. Very family oriented. Super friendly pony.
His weaknesses: He has a mule hoof, which might be able to be correctively trimmed. He also hates being sprayed with a hose.
Chester
Chester is an OTTB. He stands 16 hh and is about 18-20 years old.
His strengths: he is super gentle and sweet. Has had extensive natural horsemanship training. Very people and horse friendly.
His weaknesses: He has a possible stifle issue, that can be managed with a medication (30 day non steroid joint injection). He rears when his stifle locks up. He’s a hard keeper.
Lucky
Lucky is a gorgeous chestnut OTTB. He’s approximately 17 years old. And is about 17 hh. Top quality dressage type home only.
His strengths: He is a dressage type horse with amazing movement. Very beautiful and incredibly sweet natured. Ability to bond strong to his owner (see weaknesses). No buck. No rear.
His weaknesses: He can do flat work only, because of a track injury. He is very socially dependent. That can mean he needs to be in a situation where is kept with one person and bonds hard to that person, or he needs to be ridden with or near his horse friends.
Lucky is only for a top quality home with a buy back option.

These horses may be able to be used in the lease program we have with Seeing Colors. Stationed here and need horse time? Can’t take a horse with you when you leave? The lease program could be perfect for you.
Want one for your very own? PM and we can schedule a showing.

Just a little added explanation about what we are doing here. The people that own these horses treat all of their horses like their children. If a good home can not be found, they will just continue to keep them and care for them. These are NOT throw away horses. These are simply horses that would do better in a family environment, and not on a trail line with every Tom, Dick and Harry that wants to ride them. A trail line horse takes a very special personality to take one step behind another horse no matter how many different signals they get from the rider. These horses listed here are mostly great trail horses. They just would do best with one rider or a family to ride them where they can bond with their humans.
The owners of these horses are very sweet and kind people, and we would not be offering to assist them like this if we didn’t believe in who they are. So many camps and trail rides just throw their horses away when they are not useful. They wind up at auction or a kill pen. And then rescues have to jump through hoops to save a PTSD, sad sick and skinny horse.
Notice these are not horses needing rescued. We are so completely impressed by the care taken by the owners to ensure they never will be.
For those saying otherwise, perhaps it would be best to learn more about the situation before jumping to a conclusion. Don’t be a jerk and judge others! It’s not ok.
