Animal Medical Center of Lehigh Acres was founded in 1986 and has been an accredited American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) member since 2004. We emphasize preventative health care, which includes comprehensive examinations, vaccinations, dental hygiene, and other health safeguards, to ensure that your dog or cat does not suffer unnecessarily due to preventable and/or undetected illness. Prev
ention costs less than treatment. Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. Our state-of the art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures, from spays and neuters to major orthopedic procedures. We offer cutting edge technology with the use of surgical laser equipment with most surgeries. If needed, a board certified veterinary specialty surgeon is available for the more complex cases. We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide that extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Preanesthetic blood testing is available and recommended prior to any anesthetic procedure. The patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures with the most modern anesthetic monitoring equipment available in veterinary medicine. Our dental services include ultrasonic teeth cleaning and polishing, full mouth dental radiographs, tooth extractions, and oral surgery. All dental procedures include an application of OraVet Barrier Sealant. We do not perform ear cropping or tail docking in accordance with American Animal Hospital Association's written position. Our in-house labratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, and parasite testing. Most results can be received in less than ten minutes. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations. Our on-site X-ray equipment provides the highest quality radiographs available in veterinary medicine today to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of many disorders. Consultations with radiology specialists are also available. Ultrasound services can be scheduled for those patients requiring cardiac or abdominal echos. Also provided on-site are ECG services as well as consultations with veterinary cardiologists. We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We develop individualized flea control programs based on the specific needs of your pet. As well as providing dietary and behavioral counseling. We also provide bathing and boarding services in our pet resort to care for your pet while you are away. You can find our more by visiting our website. Brown Recluse Spiders are perhaps the most dangerous of all spiders in the United States and when bitten, their necrotic venom can rupture cell membranes and destroy regional nerves, blood vessels, and fatty tissue, leading to severe necrosis of the cutaneous tissues. π· While not native to our state of Florida, Brown Recluse Spiders have established populations and are most active during the months of March - October. We suspect sweet Apollo here was bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider. Dr Nicole and support staff Brittany and Rian immediately got to work to help her. While under sedation, we clipped Apollo down and treated her wounds. After a stay in our hospital for observation, Apollo was sent home on supportive medication, including pain management and antibiotics. Feel better, Apollo! We're rooting for your recovery! π·πΎ

Another toxicity came through our doors this morning, this time a chocolate PLUS raisins ingestion. π³ Raisins are highly toxic to dogs and when ingested, can cause acute kidney injury, which can progress to kidney failure.
Meet Pumpkin, an almost 2 yr old Poodle, who decided to eat a full box of Raisinets. Dr. Charley got right to work with inducing vomiting, plus additional supportive care. After a short stay for observation and an edit to his holiday sweater, Pumpkin was well enough to go home.
π Please keep ALL chocolates, raisins, and other toxins out of reach of your pets this holiday season! ππ«π«

π The holiday season can be dangerous for pets!
Did you know? 48% of pet-related ER visits during the holidays involve chocolate ingestion. π«
Last week, Carly, a 10-year-old Lab, ingested 30 pieces of salted caramel dark chocolate, roughly 2 full pounds! π³ Thankfully she came to us right in time. Dr Nicole induced vomiting and supportive fluids and medications were started. With just an afternoon stay in our hospital, Carly was able to go home that very day.
Let this serve as a helpful reminder to keep human treats out of reach this holiday season. π

Check this out ! β€If you look closely, you'll see microscopic larvae wiggling throughout red blood cells in a blood sample from a heartworm positive dog that came to us last week. Named 'Microfilaria', this parasite is the larval stage of heartworms. If left untreated, they will develop into adult worms and can cause severe damage to the host's heart and lungs. Thankfully this dog will be treated for heartworms but this serves as a great reminder of why monthly heartworm medication is KEY to PREVENTION! β€
