The neck of the horse is very important. Why? A horse uses their neck to balance their body. Compensations or problems here can affect the rest of the body. If function here is restricted it will cause issues with balance, readability and quality of movement.

Good morning!

Some news!

I am furthering my education in equine massage with another certification. Learning different techniques and also myofascial release. I’m really excited about this!

Myofascial release is much like my normal massage. It is a slower approach with hands on pressure into a fascial restriction for several minutes in one area. This technique restores the connective tissue web which helps lameness and enhances a horse’a preformance.

⭐️ Regular maintance is optimal.
🙋‍♀️ Why?

1. It helps assess your horse’s physical wellness.
2. Aids in catching tension and/or compensation issues right away.
3. It allows your horse to be the best version of itself. Improving ROM, flexibility, mental health, muscle tone, and more!
4. Wether your horse is competing or just a pleasure horse, it is constantly experiencing strain from use. Routine keeps muscles supple and pain/fatigue at bay.
5. Helps in prevention of injury.

Jiggle jiggle.

🌊 I want your horse to jiggle. It means they are supple.

🐴 A supple horse is more willing to accept your directions. It means their muscles are loose. They can stretch forward and down, feeling balanced. Their joints can be actively free in movements. They are relaxed and feeling phenomenal! 🌴

Miss Callie caught mid yawn. I do really love her. 💕 We worked hard & were able to get her to monthly sessions instead of weekly!

I often share horses and their releases during one of our session. But what is a release?

When I mention releases, i’m talking about the release of tension in the horse.

Releases can look like

Yawning 🥱
Licking or chewing 👅
Passing gas 💨
Looks tired 😴
Head dropping ⬇️
Stretching 🧘‍♀️
Deep breathes or sighs 😮‍💨
Relaxed eyes, blinking 👁

⭐️ These are all good signs!

🙋‍♀️ How does your horse release?

08/15/2022

Mr Frekcles and his yawning. He always gives me all the types of releasing signs. 💕

I love me some Freckles!

The shoulder muscles are incredibly important. The major shoulder muscles should always be loose and flexible. They play a vital role in working the front end. They bring the front legs up and forward & back and under.

When they are tight you may notice a difference in jumping, laterally movements, neck flexing, and length of strides.

Horses get tired, sore, and stressed just like us.
We want our horses to be the best that they can be. So, regular maintenance such as farrier visits, vet checks, saddle fittings and dentist appointments are all important. Something that is often over looked is your horse’s musculoskeletal maintaince. It too is a key factor in achieving the best preformance from your horse, whatever their job is.

⭐️ This is where I come in. As a equine massage therapist, I know the importance of massage.

🐴 Equine massage has many benefits to maintaining the overall health and well-being of our horses.
• helps aid in pain relief
• increases flexibility, supplesness and range of motion
• gives your horse a chance to relax, lightly decreasing blood pressure and heart rate
• improves muscle tone and circulation
• aids in coordination and balance
• aids in recovery
• serves as a prevention to injury
• & so much more.

Let’s talk about it 💬

👋 My first encounter: we will talk about what you see or feel that is happening. I need to get an idea of why you contacted my and what is going on. Details & history.

🎥 Videos of lameness, explanations of what you’re feeling, my own assessment and how your horse currently feels are all important in understanding the full picture.

💭 We will talk some more. What activities does your horse partake in. Reactions or previous issues/concerns.

🐎 Then we will develope a plan.

A horse doesn't have to be an athlete to benefit from massage therapy. Just fooling around in the pasture, a horse can pull a muscle and come up sore. Ever seen horses galloping in a muddy field, slip and catch themselves? Imagine how you would feel if the same thing happened to you. You might pull a groin muscle or some other muscle and feel the effects for days. Horses that are sore like this can't possibly perform at their fullest potential and very likely will be uncomfortable, even just standing in the stable.

May your belly never grumble. May your heart never ache. May your horse never stumble. May your cinch never break.

Here is the cowboy blessing. What do
you think is a cowboy's prize possession? His strong horse. What is a cowboy without his horse? How does he keep his horse!

Good morning all! How are you feeling this morning as you rolled out of bed? Stiff or with restricted range of motion? Until you get relief and moving, you lack usual enthusiasm for normal tasks. It's much the same for your horse when his muscles are stiff or hurting. Let your horse enjoy the second day of spring freely!
