Today... Was Organize / Purge the Closet and Freezer Day...
Also Known As.. Mix Up Some Dog Food Day..
Kooper's Is.. Ground Pork ( cooked of course ) , Oatmeal and a Can of Veg-All.
Kloud's Is Ground Beef, a Can of Veg All and 2 Boxes of Mac & Cheese.
Why Do They Keep Staring At Me as If It's Time for Supper ????

I Just Never Know What Kooper Blue and Kloud, or I , Will Find in the Parking Lot First Thing in the Morning.. Or Anywhere We Travel for That Matter .
( I found it before they did.. and Obviously It Wouldn't Be a Narcan Situation Anyway.. After I Disposed of This, I Scoured the Area for Any Other Paraphenalia.. None Found.. This Time )

On Friday, July 12, 2024, The State of Delaware Veterinarian,
Dr. Karen Lopez, confirmed three separate shelters and one local rescue have been affected by this Canine Influenza Outbreak.
Due to the severity of this illness, they have issued a control order mandating that all Delaware shelters and rescues suspend out-of-state transports, as well as out-of-state intakes or adoptions for the next 30-days.
This means no dogs in Delaware can be adopted to or surrendered from out-of-state, regardless of their present health.
This control order does not apply to cats.
As this illness has spread to shelters state-wide,
It Is Likely WITHIN THE COMMUNITIES AS WELL.
If your Dog exhibits Any of the Following Symptoms ~
Persistent Coughing or Sneezing,
Vomiting,
Lethargy,
Fever,
Nasal Discharge,
Eye Discharge,
or Loss of Appetite.

SOMEONE ( Not Naming Any Names ) Decided to Be a 'Bad Dog" this Morning...

On the Way Out the Door, I Walked by the E-Collars on the Kitchen Counter, and Thought Nah.. No Worries.. Missed a Great Traing Oppurtunity :-(.
But.. Got to See That When The Chase is Over, He WILL Return.
I'm Sure the Fact That it Was 7AM and The Boyz Hadn't Had Breakfast Yet, Had a Part in Him Returning So Quickly.
Kloud THOUGHT About It.. But Decided to Sit This One Out,, Good Dog..
And, If You're Wondering What I Did.. ?
Yelled a Few Times, Then Sat on the Porch to Wait a Bit..
The Knee , Leg, Hip, Back Still Hurts, I Wouldn't Have Been Able to Chase Him Anyway.
He Had His Collar with ID and Multiple Phone Numbers On, He's Microchipped, and We Live in Da Woods... So I Didn't Panic.
He Came Back All Smiles, I Greeted Him, Told Him He was A Good Boy ( for Coming Back ) and We Came in For Breakfast.
Never Say Never , Just Say.. They Haven't ... YET !!

I've been Asked About the Cooling Mat for Dogs..
I've Purchased Several over the Years, They Don't Last Forever, the cooling liquid seems to disappear, they get moldy when stored away over the winter. ( I just put them in the bathtub, let them soak, and scrub ) .
They Work Best on a Flat Surface,, in the Pic, There's a Few Layers of Mats in Various Condition, with the Newest On Top, and They're On a Piece of Vinyl.
Don't Use them Outdoors.. They'll Get HOT.
But... The Boyz LOVE Them..
Ive Personally Used Them, and they DO Make a Difference.
In Addition to the Bed of Mats, There's 1 more in the Kitchen , Under a Fan.
We Don't Have an AC.. So Every Degree Cooler Helps !!

XL are always the hardest to find..

As Many of You Know....
Kolby, Kooper's Dad.. Kloud's Grandfather.. Was an Outstanding Therapy Dog..
He Loved Doing Visits.. as a Reading Dog in the Local Elementary School, Visiting the Nursing Home or Hospital..
But Kolby EXCELLED at His "Older Adult Behavioral Health Unit " Visits at the Palmerton Hospital.
Every Other Monday, He'd Pull Me Down the Hall to Get Thru the Doors and Get Started with Visitations.

The National Therapy Group ( Therapy Dogs International ) that we did His Visits thru doesn't allow Dogs to be Both Therapy Dogs and Service Dogs.
So, When Kolby Spent More Time as My Service Dog, it was the End of his Official Therapy Dog Career.

Kooper.. Has Been Serving as My Mobility Assistance Dog since he's 9 months old.. ( Younger than expected, but Kolby passed away , so Kooper had to fill in his paws ).
Thus, Kooper hasn't been exposed to some of Folks and Situations that Kolby was.
( OK.. So He Deals with ME on a Daily Basis.. But My Crazy is Normal to Him)

Today.. Kooper and I were Galavanting,
( Hobbling)
( Kloud Was Home, Guarding the Fan )
Mostly Out By Reading, ....Quick Stops... Ollie's ,
Ocean State Job Lot..:-) !! and a Marshall's.
The Stop at Marshall's was to Look for an XL Cooling Mat for His Brother Rudy and Uncle AJ .
( Mission Accomplished.. XL Mat Found and Purchased ! )
( Kooper and Kloud have 6 in the house, and 1 in Reserve .. and Yes.. They Work !! )

Kooper and I Make Our Way towards the check out Line..
I Hear a Woman Who is Sounding Tired and Distressed, Saying "I'm Going to Call the Crisis Hotline.. I'm Going to Call Dr. Whathisname.. You Can't Do This.. We Have to Go....
I THINK She's On the Phone..
But, When We Round the Corner, I See She's Actually Speaking to her(9 -12ish ?) Daughter..
Who is Sitting on the Floor in the Check Out Aisle.
At First, We Hang Back, to Give them Space, and Becasue I don't Know How the Girl Feels About Dogs..

As the Line Shortens, We Walk Past Them.. I keep Kooper to my Right, as the Girl is on My Left.
The Girl Never Looked Up as We Edged By..
Mom is Starting to Sound Frantic..
I hear Her Say, "It Would be Really Nice if the Crisis Center Put a Phone Number on That ".
Then She Tells her Daughter that She's Going to Call Her Grandmother.. AND Dr Whatshisname..

There's about 4 other Customers Still in the Line..
All Women... But No One is Offering Any Assistance..

I Felt So Bad for Mom and Daughter.. And So I Asked...
"Would She Like to See the Dog? "
Mom Says.. "Sure......"
We Take 2 Steps Back to the Girl.. Kooper Plops Down Next to Her Immediatly.. ( I didnt even have time to ask him to) .
After a Brief Getting Acquainted Pet and Sniff,
and Even a Few Kisses for Mom, I Asked the Girl if She'd Like to Walk Kooper...
and the Young Lady Was On Her Feet in a Flash.. !

The Young Lady's Name is Elizabeth..
She's Been Labeled as Being Oppositional..
( I had 2 Girls.. So.. White is Black. and Black is White , and Mine were Just being Girls )
Her Father Recently approved a Medication Change,
which Doesn't Seem to be Working .
( I'm guessing Mom & Dad are divorced )

Anyway.. Oppositional Elizabeth, became Smiley, Helpful Miss Elizabeth and Helped Me Walk Kooper to the Cashier. To Keep Her Engaged, and Interested, I had her Feeling the Cooling Mat and Watching Kooper's Noxgear Harness go thru it's 14 different Light Up Colors..

After Checking Out, Miss Elizabeth Walked Kooper to Her Mom's Car, and as Far as I Know, Willingly Got In.
( The parking lot asphalt was rather warm, so we didn't Make Sure She got in , but I did drive over in their direction after we got in our car, and Didnt See them).

Mom said Elizabeth's Therapist had suggested a Service Dog, ( they have a Pet dog ) .but Everywhere She Called was Focusing on Service Dogs for Veterans.
I Suggested an Organization that she hadn't heard of , ( Susquehanna Service Dogs ) and may be able to help.

And So.. It Really Felt Like God Wanted Kooper Blue News, Photo and Video Journalism and I, to be There, at That Moment in Time..

I'm Beyond Proud of Kooper, and Thrilled to See That Kolby's Gift of Bringing Out the Best In All People, Runs in Family.
