Short story time… some of my tracking buddies are fully aware that I’ve been struggling with Red since January on practice tracks. She seemed bored and just wanted to “hunt” instead of track… I haven’t put her on any kind of line since early March.

Fast forward to yesterday. 3 weeks post shoulder surgery I couldn’t take it anymore, and wanted to test her just to see how it went. So, I lashed my arm/sling to my body, and ran her in some tough conditions. Hot, dry, and windy..

As I knew from last season, she’s fully capable. Ole girl hit the line and slowly/methodically nailed it, like she knew I was injured and never pulled the lead once. Guess she just needed a break from training! 🤷‍♂️

Triple M is proud to have both of our working dogs nationally certified in at least the beginning level of tests!!

Had a great time at the Missouri Blood Trackers Symposium this weekend! Alyssa’s and I both were able to run lines with both Red & Delta. Unfortunately we were not able to secure a testing slot for Red, but Miss Delta was an absolute rockstar on her UBT 1 test! Huge thanks to Randy Devall with Devall Catahulas and Geoff with Twisted Roost Tracking for getting us here!

Is it deer season yet!?!? Can’t wait to turn the girls out this fall!

The Big Iowa Deer Classic is upon us! Come by and say hi! Let’s talk dogs and tracking your deer. Unfortunately, I won’t have a dog present as one dog just had surgery, one is in heat, and the big ole boy is turning into a grouch. We will be in /73 with Twisted Roost Tracking.

With season coming to an end, Triple M would like to thank everyone that trusted us with your tracks this year. It was a season full of extreme highs with great recoveries, to the extreme low of losing Red on a track for 2 weeks. Thankfully we found her and she went right back to work!

We are excited to announce that the ‘24-‘25 season has a new addition! Miss Delta came to us from Devall Catahoulas in LA, and made it in time for her first recovery (known dead). My wife and daughter will be doing some tracking of their own after an upcoming season of hard work and training in preparation for what we hope to be an exceptional ‘24/‘25 deer season with Red and Delta!

P.S. There may be some Red puppies coming this spring! She might have herself a little date with another proven Iowa Houla! ;)

Love it when plan comes together with a happy ending, especially for the young hunters!

We tracked this deer Friday mid-day with Red after a muzzloader shot the evening before. We arrived with snow still on the ground, and not much to go off of. Red started off a little slow, then wanted to advance very quickly for about a mile. We decided that the deer likely wasn’t dead, and with limited time to hunt, they let the site rest Friday night.

Yesterday morning, I received a confirmation of life picture, from Friday night after we had been all over in the area. Saturday evening this young lady was able to seal the deal on the same deer!

Congratulations to one of the most respectful young lady hunters that I’ve met to date on an awesome old Iowa stud!

It’s been quiet for a while, but the deer are moving again. Found one alive on a track last week, and an actual dead one today that was half destroyed by coyotes already.

This story comes with a lesson…

What should have been a quick easy 180yd track from last blood, turned into 1.5 hrs of Red trying to figure it out. She took a line about a mile to a no go fence to start, restarted her with an almost identical line, so we decided to give it one more shot guiding her in the opposite direction. 50yds from last blood, her body language changed showing she was on it. Within 2 minutes there it was.

The lesson… I was told on her first restart that the group had spent 4 hrs last night wondering around looking for blood and the deer. Want to increase your odds of a recovery, BACK OUT if you don’t see it fall, or at last blood. Call a tracker for advice. We all love to talk shot scenarios!

There’s a win for Red!

Second track today we got called on came as we were leaving the first. Hunter thought the deer had piled into some thick brush, but it had ultimately just skipped through and red picked up the track quickly and easily on the field edge taking us right to it no problem!

Red wins again!

Red was back to work this morning! This first one was odd for her. She struggled to get locked on the track but eventually took me off in the general direction winding the deer that had went uphill into the timber. Might have been all the coyote traffic or just a bad morning for her, but ultimately found it.

Well still take that win!

Red loads another one this morning!!

I’m made a rookie mistake as her handler this morning by not trusting her. Had decent blood to start and then nothing for well over 200 yards to the deer. At first start on the line she took me right down into a big creek and wanting to cross, but I didn’t believe her. (Thus the rookie move)

Took her back to the beginning to restart and slowed down finding more pin drops of blood leading right where she first took me. Across the crick we went, and 80 yards later she had me standing over the deer.

Another win for Red! Just an initial fail by me 😁

This tough lil girl says “You can’t keep me down!” She was absolutely struggling in the tall grass open field with the wind this morning. Decided to pull her from the field and play the wind. Didn’t take long and we got the head snap and boom, there he was! That’s a huge win for Red!

It’s been a little crazy around here after losing Red on a track and finally finding her yesterday. While she was gone, a buddy called for help, so Diesel came out to play. Ole boy said it’s like riding a bicycle and took us right to this Iowa stud!!

10/24/2023

As we just returned home from a track, I had to share this story. The hunter called me yesterday about a buck his son shot with a muzzleloader, and wasn’t sure of shot placement. We decided to give it 24hrs to be safe. They had decent blood for roughly 100yds and then nothing.

Red hit the ground and took off on the line until we got to last blood and lost interest quickly. After some persuasion, she got back on line and took us roughly 280yds from last blood snapping her head and diving off into shoulder high CRP grass. (Which she hates) 30 yds in, I see her jump back and an absolute stud jump up and take off. They scared each other! 😂 Not being able to pursue, the hunter and I watched the deer cross a huge ravine and walk off in the sunset a LONG ways off. He’ll live to see another day. Shot appeared to be super low.

I fully believe she was trying to tell me the deer was alive when she lost interest, but I’m glad we kept pushing to get eyes on.

That’s another win for Red!!

It’s been a long tough start to the season full of shoulder cracks/back whacks, finding deer still alive, and confirmation of life after tracks. Thankfully, last night Red was able to help a young man out with his first muzzleloader kill.

That’s another win for Red!!

We ran this track down MO Thursday night. What appears to be a solid liver shot, left us scratching our heads. Red ran this approximately 10hrs post shot. She advanced nicely putting us on more blood, but eventually lost interest. After some random searching, we called the track off.

Fast forward to Friday night, the hunter got ahold of me and had just gotten the deer back on camera. Confirmation of life is always a huge bonus to us trackers knowing that our dogs are right on with their abilities!

Ran Red on a Northern Missouri track this morning. This girl killed it! The hunters had good blood off in the timber that circled back around, but then stopped. After searching for a while they backed and we ended up with the call.

Red worked through the searched area and lined it out perfectly in the opposite direction the hunters believed it to be. After 100yds of no blood she showed me more blood. We kept advancing finding even more and eventually she ran up on the deer still alive at around 400yds from the original shot side. The arrow hit shoulder and appeared to slide back into guts.

Got permission from the neighbors after the deer crossed the fence to pursue. Found it again bedded in heavy underbrush where it took off and started walking, so we backed out with a known direction for the hunter to search after some time to let it expire.

That’s another Red win!!
