Animals are coming in faster than we can get any adopted.
Please keep in mind that any animal that comes to the shelter is not guaranteed they will go up for adoption.
Also, you cannot bring in another animal from another county as that animal MUST go to that county's shelter where the animal was found in as the owner might be looking for that pet.

Please share Macy's picture and bio. She lived in a home and was loved but the owner was no longer able to take care of her. She so deserves to e back in a home with a family, as to MANY others at the shelter.

HAPPY NEWS: ADOPTED!
Introducing MACY. Eye-catching MACY is a Cattle Dog/Carolina Dog type with striking red and white markings that make her a real attention-getter! At 6 years old, she's all grown up, so she's ready to pick up on everything she needs to know to steal your heart. She's one of many deserving adult dogs here at BCSAPS who are more than ready for that second chance at the love and security of a family of their very own. Thank you in advance for doing what you can to help make that happen!

WE ARE ACCEPTING DONATIONS TO REBUILD! Fix A Friend Spay Neuter Clinic and all equipment is owned by Adopt an Angel. We were flooded with 3-4 feet of water on Monday and 80 cats, 20 dogs and staff were evacuated by boat to the animal shelter because owners and rescues were unable to come back to get them due to flooded roads. The clinic has flood insurance, but that does not cover ALL CONTENTS. We know we will need equipment and supplies. The insurance will help build it back to the way it was. However, we have had TWO 500 year floods in 6 years so putting it back the way it was is not the answer. We need to build it back bigger, higher and better than it was and if we could DREAM, we would add in a small adoption center for the cats, kittens and dogs Adopt an Angel rescues---we own two acres. We would love to get off of a septic system and tap into county water. We are talking with our contractor who is meeting with architects to raise the entire building 6 feet. All donation checks must be written to Adopt an Angel, since that is the charity behind the clinic. You can donate online at www.adoptanangel.net and put the clinic in the comments. You can mail checks to Adopt an Angel, PO Box 15095, Wilmington, NC 28408. Again, please make the check out to Adopt an Angel. The clinic has done over 120,000 surgeries since 2013 and we typically do over 100 surgeries a day. Over 40 animal rescues and shelters have no way to get their animals fixed until we are rebuilt. We gotta get this done and done FAST! Will you help us?

Some VERY IMPORTANT things to remember when adopting a rescue.

Some VERY IMPORTANT things to remember when adopting a rescue.

ADOPTIONS ARE A PROCESS!

We have done A LOT of adoptions lately so just putting this out there to everyone. Our animals are RESCUES so they will need time to adjust. The first 3 days can be HELL as they have a lot of energy after being cooped up in shelters sometime for months. Cats may hide, hiss or even swat. They may have potty accidents at first even if they were once housebroken. You are beginning to do initial meetings with the other pets and kids. You may question yourself as to if you did the right thing. DO NOT GIVE UP---JUST WAIT. The next 3 weeks they begin to feel comfortable but are constantly being exposed to new "first" things happening to them. The first time they meet the new neighbor dog---the first time you run the vacuum cleaner, the first time you leave them alone, the first time having to abide by "rules," the first knock on the door. They are constantly learning NEW things during this 3 week period. They are figuring out their place in the pack with the other pets and kids. It is a time of adjustment, but you are there to teach them and help build confidence or guide them through your expectations. The next 3 months---you learn to trust them with things and they learn to trust you. They learn they are SAFE AND LOVED. And VOILA---after 90 days you look at the dog or cat you adopted and it's a totally different animal than what you took home 90 days ago. Congratulations! You just learned HOW TO TURN A SHELTER DOG OR CAT INTO A "PET"!
