Today is World Radiology Day. X-Rays have been a part of veterinary medicine since the 1920s. Today our x-rays are digitial so that results are processed instantly. Every x-ray taken in our office is also sent to a board certified radiologist for review. Even with advances in veterinary medicine, 100 year old x-ray technology is still one of the main diagnostic tools in our office. We also have a portable ultrasound machine that also follows under the radiology umbrella. One of the first machines Dr. Wingfield brought into the practice was a portable ultrasound machine. Some pets need both an x-ray and an ultrasound as they can work together to get the doctor a better idea of what may be wrong with your pet. If you have any questions about any radiology services we offer, please ask a member of our staff.

November 7th- National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day-

Lymphoma is one of the most common canine cancers, so for National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day, we wanted to talk a little about it. Lymphoma is caused by many different factors but can present most commonly with swollen lymph nodes. As it progresses, it can cause lethargy, vomiting, weight loss, loss of appetite and diarrhea. There are more than 30 different types of Canine Lymphoma and they account for 20-24% of all tumor cases in dogs. Early intervention is very important so if you notice that your dog feels swollen around their chin, their back legs, or in their armpits call our office to schedule a nose to tail exam.

Gizmo celebrated Halloween with us today and he was dressed for the occasion! This magnificent Great Dane came dressed as a dinosaur. Very apppropriate for this giant breed! Thank you Gizmo for making us all smile!

Our office has been seeing a higher number of dogs having f***l samples that are testing positive for Giardia. Giardia is a highly contagious intestinal parasite that can cause diarrhea in dogs. It can be transmitted through contaminated food, water, soil, or objects, and is commonly found in places where many dogs are together. Below are some of the symptoms of Giardia. Testing is done by sending out a f***l sample to our Idexx Lab. Besides Giardia, it also checks for other intestinal parasites. If you have any questions about intestinal parasites please call our office.

There are no words to explain how grateful we are and how humbled we are by your support of our office. Thanks to all of you, we were voted #1 Veterinarian in Herald Standard’s 2024 Community Choice Awards. Congratulations to everyone that was nominated and won in their respective categories. We also salute every other veterinary clinic/hospital in our area for everything you do. Thank you again to everyone that voted for our office.

Moss had her first visit with Dr. Wingfield today. As you can see she was loved by the staff and especially by Tara, who had the pleasure of assisting Dr. Wingfield with Moss’s visit. Moss is a 9 week old Golden Retriever puppy who loved giving hugs. Thanks to Moss and her family for stopping in today!

Today is Back to The Future Day! In Back to The Future II, Marty McFly travels to the future (Oct 21, 2015). For us that saw the movie in 1989, it is hard to believe we are now 9 years past "the future." Today we had one last celebration for Vet Tech Week and lunch was provided by our wonderful bosses, Dr Wingfield and Mary! They spoil all of the staff every year and somehow always top themselves. If you have a good eye you will notice the popcorn machine, snow cone machine and cotton candy machine they got for the staff as well. Speaking on behalf of all the staff we greatly appreciate everything they both do for us at work and in our personal lives.

Our Vet Tech Week celebration continued today as we had lunch from El Patron provided by our wonderful Virbac rep, Alicia. Virbac provides our office with the toot paste and brushes to help with dental care and they are behind Movoflex Advanced. Movoflex Advanced is our go to joint supplement. We have carried it for years and recommend it to any dog for joint support with many of our staff members using it for their own pets. Thank you so much Alicia and Virbac for your support of our office and our staff.

Today we had lunch (Papa John’s Pizza) provided by MERCK Animal Health and their rep, Kristin! MERCK is the company behind Bravecto which is our most popular flea and tick prevention. We greatly appreciate MERCK’S support of our office and staff, and for helping us celebrate Vet Tech Week!

National Boss's Day is here and it gives us a chance to thank, praise, and celebrate the ladies that lead us at Grace Veterinary Services. Dr. Wingfield is the heart of our practice and we mean that as very few have a heart as big as hers. She is always doing what she feels is in the best interest of her patients and is always there for any member of the staff. Her passion for veterinary medicine is a unmatched and she is the driving force behind our staff as she is our biggest fan and advocate. Mary is the business side of Grace Veterinary Services but is also available at all times for the staff. She is also our go to for things that have nothing to do with animal medicine, like construction projects. Mary has no issues with getting her hands dirty as fixing broken pipes, painting walls etc are part of what she does for our office. She also has a deep belief that our staff and her sister, Dr. Wingfield can accomplish anything. Both women are a blessing to Fayette County and our community at large and our staff is blessed to have them leading us on a daily basis. From your entire staff we wish you both a wonderful day!
