This is a crucial read for anybody that wants to get involved with Rescue and Kittens or Cats

Today alone, our team took in 34 kittens under the age of 3 weeks. Our fosters continue to scramble in attempts to make room and accommodate. I can't even post their intake pictures/stories because their fosters are still trying to get intake procedures completed, I haven't received their intakes pictures yet for me to pass along to you.

Effective immediately, I must significantly reduce our intake criteria. Most kittens being found, we will be offering instruction and guidance, we will be offering supplies as much as we can, and our team will be a text/call away for further "how to" advice, and we will need to ask the finding public to begin offering care of the little ones to the best of their ability while our fosters try to make this work.

Please know that our team is trying their best to help as many little ones as we can. Trust me when I say that we KNOW often times us turning away a neonate means a death sentence to those little ones. Our team knows this, and it haunts them to know that we cannot help them all. Reality though is that even if we had a team of 500 bottle feeding homes, it still wouldn't be enough.

The sad reality is that the cat overpopulation crisis is real. There are not enough people in rescue to control it, even though we each are working ourselves into the ground trying our damnest TO control it. Everybody in rescue needs the publics help. Now. Today. If you feed a cat, any cat, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure that cat is spayed/neutered.

We have over 9,000 facebook supporters. I am assuming you are all cat lovers if you follow our rescue page. Could you imagine the impact if every one of you made it a point to trap just 1 cat from your community? Maybe 2? 3? Could you imagine if every single person or family who reached out to our rescue for help on an orphaned kitten could promise to trap just 1 random cat out there? That would be the ultimate "return the favor" gift for ANY rescue. The impact would be incredible and that is my request tonight as I write this.

If you know of a pregnant cat: Contact your local rescue ASAP for an urgent spay spot at your local clinic. If you allow a pregnant cat to give birth, you are contributing to the cat crisis we are experiencing.

If you know of a cat with a litter: DO NOT TAKE THE KITTENS. I cannot emphasize that enough!!! DO NOT KITTEN NAP!!!! That is cruel to the mom and immediately drops those kittens survival chance. If you find a nursing mom, contact a rescue for advice, but do not disturb that nest. As soon as we learn of a kitten snatching scenario, we automatically refuse the intake request.

If you find a litter of kittens without a mom: If they have fat bellies, are sleeping soundly, appear content, DO NOT DISTURB THEM. Mom is near. If you find a litter without a mom and they have flies, maggots, bugs, look very sickly, cold, wet, weak, crying nonstop, these are signs of abandonment. DO NOT DISTURB THEM, but monitor closely as you reach out to your area rescue for guidance and further instruction. If kittens are cold, please give them a heat source.

Tomorrow will be a hot day. Our incubators maintain a very warm environment, depending on the age of the kittens the incubators are set from 85 to 100 degrees. Unless the kittens show signs of heat related health issues (mouth breathing, panting, etc.), kittens enjoy warm temperatures. Give mom an extra bowl of water and give them some shade. Heat is not a reason to disturb a nursing mom or disturb kittens. Contact your local rescue for any concerns and further guidance.

With heat comes maggots and flies. Any kittens found with fly eggs and/or maggots is abandoned and needs immediate rescue assistance.

Help us help them. Our team is exhausted. We have more babies under the age of 3 weeks in our network than ever before in our history. We ask for your understanding, patience, and kindness towards our team. Please, please know, we are all trying our best.

Thank you for your support.

Now in Mechanicsburg Petsmart- Stryder!!
Strider showed up a couple months ago, on an already completely fixed colony. He was super friendly, and the feeders kids loved him. Unfortunately, one day he appeared injured on his foot. I took him to the clinic (which included a "fix") , & It turns out, he was missing a back toe! He was given an antibiotic, and a pain injection, and he's all healed up now.
He's a very sweet boy. Everyone is in agreement, he must've been dumped on the property. He's now fully vetted FIVFIL negative, flea treated , and treated for roundworms. With Feline Solutions Inc.

J-Lo had a rough start to life. Her Mom abandoned her & her brother, when she was only about 6 weeks old, under a shed by an assistant living home. There were no signs of any other cats or kittens, around the area.
She was treated for an infection, caused by a "bot fly" in her stomach, when she was rescued, at 8 weeks old. The fly had already matured inside her, & flown away. She wouldn't have survived, without the antibiotic injection.
Her brother is over 1lb bigger than her, & he is already up for adoption, but Not her. J-lo has bilateral cataracts, & she can only see shapes. Sometimes she misses the litter box, but she can find her food.
J-lo is going to need a very special person, for her needs. She's just 3lbs, fivfilv neg, fully vaccinated, & neg f***l. She's also a very loving & playful girl💓 she's available thru Feline Solutions Inc.

Well, this was the week, I was supposed to take a break from trapping. So that didn't happen. hopefully this week coming up , I can take a break.
First I Secured too pretty kitties. Both of them were rescued .
Two kittens rescued on Friday by Loving Care Cat Rescue, two more from the same litter rescued , & 1 for Feline Solutions Inc. taken all the way to Petsmart in Carlisle! That was five kittens out of my house!!!!
3 kitties from Sunnyside to be TNR 2 girls on Thursday , & 1 boy ginger on tues. The Feeder picked them up , and they went to get fixed. (I told her, I wasn't trapping.)
The homeless man's kitties are out of my house too! His new Girlfriend has them, now. So that was seven cats out, two cats quickly in and out. And of course, one more in.
Lost Cat from Manor Ridge. The guy's mother passed away, and he was just having a fit because his cat was trying to get in his house while he was grieving

Unless they're friendly, then it stands for rescue 💓

Unless they're friendly, then it stands for rescue 💓

Let's talk about the 'R' in TNR - Return! Why is it SO important to return cats to their colonies? 🤔

1. Truly feral cats NEED to be returned to their colonies once fixed because that is their 'home'. While we may not think of it as a 'real' home, for them, it's all they've ever known. Relocating feral cats to a new location is a process and even with best practice, cats will STILL sometimes leave their new home.

2. Shelters, rescues and fosters are overwhelmed with owner surrenders, found kittens and friendly strays. Most are turning away even highly adoptable cats and kittens because there isn't enough space, resources or adopters. Taking in cats that are feral, semi-feral or anything less than highly adoptable limits the number of cats they can ultimately help. Plus, cats that are anything but highly social struggle in shelter environments and often develop medical complications from the stress of being confined.

3. MANY feral, stray and community cats have people who actively care for them. Not only do they care for them, they LOVE them. Getting them sterilized, providing shelter and feeding daily is supporting them while respecting they aren't truly 'pets'.

4.) TNR is the most cost effective and humane way to manage outdoor cat populations. Any cat outside is there because of irresponsible humans. While many would argue euthanasia is a more effective and kinder option, it's expensive, impractical and just creates a vacuum effect where new cats move into the space.

Check out the resources below for information about TNR! 👇🏻 Or find local TNR clinics, groups and resources in your community to help the cats in your backyard!

And remember, if you don't agree, you don't have to comment. ☺️ But discussion, shares and likes drives our engagement and spreads our message, so we're thankful for your two cents (even if we disagree!) cause it helps fund our TNR efforts right here in Central Pennsylvania! 🖤

Ok his week, i helped Jody & Amy trap a big white tabby with grey (no picture) near me in Leola. a lady trapped a mommy cat in Denver
(No sign of the kittens), another lady trapped an older kitten in Denver too. My friend Kim's friend Kenny got the last girl from his colony (pretty ginger & white). 2 more girls, from an Amish lady (vet said one was a Russian tabby, but idk how he can tell the difference).
The 90 year old only had 1 this week, I could get (another lactating female). The tipped ones were all in the drop trap, & my eyesight is bad, plus it started to rain , so i pulled the string. His friend was there talking really loud, so that didn't help either.
There were 2 more kittens in there though (1 girl 1 boy). Plus I have a dumped cat , in a dog crate, so I'm officially beyond full. I put all the kittens from the 90 year old man's house together, so " "Teresa " can have a place. She's registered to Carroll County humane league in MD, and she's not going back there. It's a high kill shelter.
No trapping now, until I can make some space.

And if you don't believe them, you can find out the hard way.
08/14/2024

And if you don't believe them, you can find out the hard way.

Let’s talk about “The Vacuum Effect.”

If there is a space in an environment rich with amenities, nature will fill it. This occurs in cat colonies as well as many other animal populations. Even if the original population is removed, others will move in and use the provided resources.

It simply is ineffective to only remove cats from their colonies. Whether that be by taking them into rescue, moving due to a natural disaster, etc. it only creates an opportunity for more cats to move in. There will always be more cats. And they will always reproduce if they are not vetted.

Trapping, Neutering/Spaying, and Returning colony cats allow the spots in colonies to remain filled while decreasing the population over time and the opportunity to reproduce.
