Official Statement from the Fayette County Humane Society

This is one of the hardest things we will ever have to write. Our hearts are heavy, our eyes are full of tears, and our souls are tired. But you deserve to know the truth.

We are devastated to announce that the Fayette County Humane Society will no longer be under contract with the Fayette County Commission. After years of pouring everything into the animals, the staff, and this shelter, we cannot and will not allow our mission or reputation to be destroyed at the hands of corruption, lies, and neglect.

Why we’re stepping away

This was not an easy choice. We didn’t want it to come to this. We only wanted to be heard, to show our community the reality of what we’ve been up against these past three years. But instead of honesty, we were met with lies. Instead of partnership, we were met with betrayal. Instead of support, we were left standing alone.

We cannot stand beside corruption.
We cannot work under people who create fake roles to hand out to their friends while our staff sacrifice every day for less pay and no benefits.
We cannot watch incompetence and politics drag down everything we’ve built with our community.

This isn’t walking away. This is refusing to be broken down any longer.

What this means for the animals

Let us be very clear: our mission is not ending. We are, and always will be, fully committed to saving the lives of dogs and cats.

No matter where we are, no matter what obstacles we face, we will continue to fight for the voiceless. We will continue to rescue, protect, and love the animals who need us most. The Fayette County Humane Society is not just a building or a contract—it’s a promise. And that promise will never be broken.

Where we go from here

Now we face the enormous challenge of rebuilding. We need a new place to call home. We need resources to keep our staff going. We need our community to stand with us—because without you, none of this will be possible.

We’ve created a GoFundMe, and we’ll also be sharing our PayPal and Venmo accounts for those who would like to give directly. We know the goal is high, but so is the need. This is survival. And we are determined to survive—for our animals, for our staff, for our mission.

A message from our hearts

To whoever comes next—if anyone does—please guard your heart. This shelter has broken down two organizations in three years. That alone should speak volumes.

And to our community—our family—you mean everything to us. You’ve carried us through heartbreak after heartbreak, and we know you’ll stand by us now. Your love, your voice, your support—it’s the only reason we still have hope.

We may be bruised. We may be weary. But we are not finished. With your help, we will rise again. And we will continue to fight for every animal who needs us.

With all our love,
The Fayette County Humane Society

We need your help! Saturday someone saw a man deliberately swerve and hit a dog. The man proceeds to get out of the truck cursing the lady who stopped to help the dog. Essentially asking what she was going to do about it. Unfortunately he had severe injuries that he did not survive.

She was so distraught she didn't get a tag number but she said it was a red newer model truck. This happened on Airport Rd.

This was an owned dog named Maverick that got loose by accident. This dog came from us a few years ago where we had taken him for a embedded collar. He was such a good boy that didn't deserve to be run down.

If anyone has any information please let us know. I know it's a long shot, but many times people like that go bragging. Help us get justice for Maverick!
