Yall ever seen a teacup chihuahua before? ME EITHER!! This little lady and several others were pulled from a hoarding situation here in Levelland. The rescue From Texas With Love is taking good care of a large chunk of them, and a lot are being transported soon to Canada! How cool!

There will be a lot of fireworks in the next few days to celebrate the 4th of July! While they are fun, we want to make sure that all animals stay safe while these celebrations happen! Here are a few tips to ensure your pets are safe and enjoy the upcoming holiday:

1. Make sure your pet has collars with identification tags on it, or they are microchipped and all of their microchip information is up to date.

2. Your pets safest place is at home! Make sure they have a safe, familiar space they can rest in to help ease their anxiety that may result from fireworks.

3. Let your pets out earlier in the day. This helps them avoid being out while fireworks are going off.

4. Make sure your pets are secure by making sure there are no holes in the fence, the gate is shut and locked, no windows or doors are accidentally left open.

To help make sure all pets are safe this holiday, LAS is offering free microchips for all pets the rest of the week🐾

PLEASE vaccinate all your dogs. All of them. Even the old ones. The multi shot is about $40 at CAAC. It covers distemper and parvo. Believe me when I tell you, you do NOT want to watch a dog go down from either of these diseases. It’s heartbreaking and brutal and can easily kill your dog.

Over the last year we have confirmed numerous Canine Distemper positive cases with many others suspected positive as well. The Distemper outbreak is not a shelter problem, Distemper is in our community and here to stay.

Canine Distemper is a HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS, OFTEN FATAL disease caused by a virus that attacks the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous systems of puppies and dogs. Dogs that survive usually have PERMANENT, IRREPARABLE nervous system damage.

The main route of infection is via aerosol droplet secretions (through sneezing or coughing) from infected animals. Some infected dogs may even shed the virus for several months. Foxes, coyotes, raccoons and skunks are also carriers of the virus.

VACCINATION is crucial in preventing Canine Distemper. If you have not updated your dog's Distemper vaccine or have never received one, please give us a call to schedule an appointment today. Prevention for protection!

I am a 21st century dog.

-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work.
Today I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.

-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for dog fighting.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when one of them approaches me.

-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and we want you to come back to the booster with a snap of your fingers.

-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.

-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today we forgot I'm a walking dog and great racing I'm fat and have to babysit.

-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox a badger and rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my damn character and wish I could turn into a living room dog.

-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just for occupation.

-I am a border collie
I was made to work eight hours a day, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.

but I'm also an individual who needs to express their instincts, and I'm not suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the garden, seeing yourself a little in the evening when you get home and only entitled to a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside....
