Puppy nipping is a very typical behavior that takes place with most puppies. Usually, but not always, lasting up until about 4.5 months or so. Yes, I know sometimes longer, too!
It is very natural for puppies to nip. Most puppy owners & even dog trainers will often associate puppy nipping with "teething." This is incorrect. There is a difference between why a puppy nips & why they teeth. Very different motivators.
Having said that, they both can be addressed by different techniques/behaviors because the cause for puppy nipping & teething are different. I just wanted to make that distinction. Let's get back to puppy nipping and save the other for another post.
Some dog trainers will recommend ONE technique, some will recommend a few, but VERY few will suggest how we can at the same time begin to STOP puppy nipping while also forging a habit within ourselves that will help foster a STRONGER relationship between our puppy and may have them MUCH MORE focused on us as they get older. Perhaps, even LASER FOCUSED.
