Friday heat facts: Quick reminder that on hot days like these, when your vehicle and air conditioning is off in a car with the windows cracked, it is not safe for your pet. The Interior of a car heats up must faster than you’d think. “I’ll only be a few minutes to run in” could very likely overheat your best buddy 🐾. On an 85 degreee day, inside a car with the windows rolled down it can reach over 100 degrees in minutes. Please leave your pets home in the air conditioning. 🌡️ 🥵

Heat hazard education: Did you know short nose breeds are more prone to overheating?
ANY pet can be affected by excessive heat but the shorter the nose, the higher the risk. To avoid them overheating, start by limiting your pets exposure to the heat. Ways to decrease overheating: Eliminate the possibility of sunbathing outdoors or in the window, alter their walk schedule to be early morning or late at night, forget about leaving them in the car with the window cracked rather leave them at home in the air conditioning, have plenty of water available, buy a pet safe cooling mat for them to lay on or if properly supervised, they can dip their paws in a baby pool. Be safe out there! 🌡️🐾

Loooing for a healthy frozen dog ice cream to give fido on these hot days? See recipe below:
(If your pet has food allergies, food sensitivities or is on a prescription diet please consult your vet before giving them such treats). Give in moderation and most importantly, double check that the peanut butter does NOT have xylitol in it as that is highly toxic to dogs. A refreshing treat to cool your dog down and satisfy their taste buds. 😋

Hot weather can wreck havoc on your pet. Below are some signs your pet may exhibit if they have heat stroke: To help keep them safe:
1)Please keep your pets indoors in the air conditioning.
2) Avoid exercising pets during peak hours rather consider indoor play time or an early morning/late night stroll.
3)Please do not leave them in a parked car with just the window cracked nor in a hot room.
4)Always allow them access to plenty of clean fresh water.
5)Use pet safe cooling mats for your four legged companion to lay on.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency, you should go directly to an ER if you suspect your pet has heat stroke.

Our area is expecting extreme heat this week(90+ degree temperatures). We’d like to give a gentle reminder to NOT walk or exercise your pet during peak hours and NOT on hot asphalt. Doing so can severely hurt your pets paw pads. 🐾 🌡️
