Missing Dachshund Lucy - Update: (for full details on Lucy please visit her page Find Lucy)
At this point I’m going to publicly share the leads that we have so far, but stress that if she is spotted, she should not be chased, yelled at, or attempted to be caught. Please just snap a picture if you can and call me with the details. If we are lucky enough to get a sighting of her, the last thing we want to have happen is for her to panic and run off and disappear again.
We received 1 confirmed sighting so far as a result of sending the Lost Dog postcards. It was over 2 weeks ago. She was seen and was attempted to be caught in the Angola By the Bay development.
We had 1 potential sighting that occurred that same week, the day before Thanksgiving. A dog fitting Lucy’s description - both in appearance and behavior - was seen with an older man on a leash being walked at Massey’s Landing. Due to that potential sighting, we have since been trying to cover the Long Neck area as much as possible. Many businesses there now have fliers, and I’ve been posting to their Community Board here on FB, but we have not been able to get into the Pot Nets developments. I believe there are 6 in Long Neck, so it’s a daunting amount of ground to cover. Anyone who can help with that - getting the HOA to send something out, post something on their website, preferably putting up fliers/going door to door (security would not allow us to) etc. it would be very greatly appreciated.
During this timeframe, someone also reported possibly seeing her run across Rt. 24 between Camp Arrowhead and Angola Roads during the night.
Our last potential sighting is all the way in Seaford. Someone caught what appears to be a dachshund (no collar) on their Ring camera the night of the 7th. The video isn’t clear enough, nor is the dog visible for more than a few seconds, so we’re not sure if it’s Lucy. That Good Samaritan agreed to put food out on the porch and items with our scent in an attempt to lure the dog back, with no luck so far. We’ve alerted the local vets, shelters, and put up fliers at businesses in Seaford. It’s 30 miles away from where Lucy went missing, so if she’s out that way, she did not get there on her own.
Please continue to inform us of anything you see as soon as possible. We are working with a Dog Tracker Carmen Brothers so if you think you’ve seen Lucy, we need to have Carmen out with her dog ASAP to confirm it was Lucy and track her scent while it is still fresh.
Also please, please, please continue to look around your properties and neighborhoods, especially with the weather turning colder. Lucy is short and fit, so she could easily be getting under a porch/deck, shed, foundation, etc. or anywhere that would provide some shelter.
Finally, as a reminder, we are offering a reward for her safe return to us, no questions asked. The reward amount will more than cover the adoption fee or purchase of an available dog. Lucy has been with us for 8 years and is a family member. She cannot have puppies (she is too old and is spayed) and deserves to live out her remaining adult and senior years in the comfort of her own home with her parents who have raised her from puppyhood. Lucy, like many dachshunds, has shown signs of having back issues as she’s gotten older and on a few occasions already we’ve had to put her on steroids and strict crate rest to heal. Without doing that, and as the issue continues to progress with age, very expensive surgeries will be required.
Her crate is still sitting open on the front porch and it will be staying there, should an anonymous drop off be preferred.
