was created to provide support for families, businesses and educators seeking assistance, not only in managing behavior, but also in understanding behavior. By increasing knowledge of why a behavior of concern is present and how our responses impact that behavior, it enables us to better manage behavior, not just in the short term, but over time as well. These same principals can be applied in a b

usiness environment to build stronger teams and effective leadership skills. Whether the behavior is a mild concern or very complex, the science behind it remains the same. My goal is to teach this science as well as assisting in the development of effective strategies for long lasting and sustainable results. The utilization of horses as therapeutic partners serves as a natural bridge to facilitate greater understanding, not only of another person’s behavior, but also of the impact our own behavior has on others. I offer a variety of services utilizing horses and unmounted activities in addition to services without horse that can be provided in my onsite office, home, the community or school. Equine assisted growth and learning involves activities with horses which provide opportunities for the client or group to gain insight and apply new learning and skills. Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem-solving, leadership, taking responsibility, teamwork and relationships, confidence and attitude are several examples of the skills utilized and developed through this model. My approach always takes into account the individual differences that exist within all families and organizations in order to provide individualized support to get the most effective results. The support provided is done with compassion and understanding and always keeps the dignity of each client as an utmost priority.

HIP With Horses is proud to offer a 5 session series for girls in 7th & 8th grades to develop and practice healthy life skills. This series has a maximum of 8 participants. We can also create additional series to accommodate other groups such as girl scouts or clubs.

So excited to have my first class from Lincoln Intermediate Unit come to the farm tomorrow! Had a last minute stone dust delivery to put down around the ring as this winter weather has made it a mess of mud. My 13 year old son came home from his basketball game and on his own began spreading it while my husband put the headlights on it to light the way. That’s what I call a family business!

As I have begun promoting H.I.P. With Horses and people have looked at my website, I have had quite a few questions about our services. While much of the work is with horses doing unmounted activities, as many of you know, my passion and expertise is providing behavior support to parents and teachers. My entire career has been devoted to education and I have had a wide range of experiences. What has changed my perspective and taught me the most, however, was raising a child with high functioning autism and very complex behavioral problems that very few people had any idea how to help with. We went through increasingly more restrictive placements with agencies coming into our home. Ultimately, in the end, it was always the same...no one knew what to do. I experienced what so many parents I had dealt with professionally had to deal with and cope with...I had just never quite understood how painful and frustrating it was for them. There were also so few avenues to seek help. It took the behavior getting bad enough that she was identified and able to get medical assistance and then qualified for behavior services. There was little say in who came to help and most who did had no idea what to do. A large part of what I do now is offer services to parents to help them deal with behavioral issues, especially before it gets to the point it did for us. The horses can be integrated into this, but often are not involved at all. I can work with parents to help them better understand the behavior and give them better strategies for responding to it...and I can do it while completely understanding how difficult it is. Great session with the minis, co-facilitated with Tracy Keene Geist! Too cold for outside so our indoor heated classroom is an awesome alternative! Chip and Dale are great sports!

Just had an amazing session in the first snow of the season with a group of young ladies I love working with. There was a new member of our group...a quiet and shy girl who is going through some tough stuff...it never ceases to amaze me how powerful the presence of horses are and the impact they have on the work we do here. How incredible to see her interact with them and witness the positive outcomes. Awesome session!
