Less exercise + more treats = unexpected winter weight gain—for pets, too.

Here’s how to check your pet’s body condition:
• You should be able to feel—but not see—the ribs
• From above, their waist should be visible
• From the side, there should be a tuck at the abdomen

A few extra pounds can lead to joint strain and other health problems. If you’re unsure, we can assess and create a healthy plan.

That string of lights might look festive to you—but it might look like a chew toy to your dog or cat.

Common holiday hazards for pets:
• Electrical cords (chewing risk)
• Glass ornaments (can shatter)
• Tinsel and ribbon (especially dangerous for cats)
• Pine needles (can cause irritation if ingested)
• Holiday plants like mistletoe, holly, and lilies (toxic)

Yes, your dog has fur—but that doesn’t mean they’re immune to cold weather.

Short-coated, small-breed, senior, or underweight pets are especially vulnerable to cold and wind chill.

Cold weather tips:
• Limit time outside below 32°F
• Use jackets or booties when needed
• Dry off wet fur after walks
• Check for cracked paw pads

If your pet is shivering, limping, or hesitant to go outside—it’s time to warm up.

It’s a common winter problem: indoor cats can get bored, restless, and even gain weight when their activity drops.

Try this to keep your cat moving:
• Use a laser pointer or wand toy for short play sessions
• Set up a window perch for bird watching
• Try food puzzles or slow feeders
• Rotate toys weekly to keep them novel

Movement supports mental and physical health—and keeps them from climbing your Christmas tree.
