Get ready for all of this cuteness and more to take over Evergreen Subaru on Saturday! Our volunteers and staff will be onsite in the showroom to find homes for them and to Stuff the Subaru with donations for the GAHS.

If you are hoping to add a new puppy or kitten to your family, make sure to stop by! Visits will take place and adoptions will be processed on a first come, first serve basis starting at 11am. Adoption surveys will be filled out onsite, as the staff will not have access to previously submitted online surveys.

As we are getting ready for Saturday’s Cabin Fever Adoption event at Evergreen Subaru, we noticed that we could really use a few pet playpens to replenish our supply. These are useful when we have offsite adoption events - making a safe and easy way to have kittens with us. They are also sometimes used by our foster families to help mom cats and litters, too!

Some of our other most needed items are cat food & litter for our pet pantry, lickable treats such as Churru, calming diffuser refills, hard-sided carriers and catnip spray. You’ll see all of these items on the list.

Prefer to shop locally? Items can be dropped off at the shelter and, we will be collecting donations starting at 11am Saturday right at Evergreen. Stop in and help us Stuff the Subaru!

Let’s give a shout out to Brooke and Eleanor 4H Dairy All Stars of Cumberland County! The girls recently brought in a donation of paper towels, dog food and the most needed donation right now, cat food.

Our Pet Pantry, which helps many needy families in the community, relies on donations and any donations of wet or dry cat food helps!

Theses items will be put to good use, and we so appreciate the girls thinking of the GAHS.

“Hello! Just reaching out to give an update on Trek (previous name was Rex) - I adopted him during your Subaru event at the end of October. He's 5 months old now and doing very well!”

Trek’s family is so glad that they made their way to our last Evergreen Subaru adoption event and encourage you to join us on Saturday, Feb 8th for the next one.

We plan to have puppies, kittens and small animals all ready to meet their new families. We’ll be processing adoptions onsite and collecting donation for the shelter, too. Let’s see if we can Pack the Subaru! The fun will start at 11am.

Today is the perfect day for Tito to make his match!

This handsome boy is a sweet and affectionate pup who loves nothing more than cuddling up with his favorite people. He's always ready for an adventure, whether it's a long walk in the park or a fun play session in the yard. Tito adores kids of all ages and would make a fantastic family companion.

Tito also open to sharing his home with one or two dog-savvy cats with a slow intro. He would thrive in a home with another playful dog who enjoys having a buddy for games and activities.

We are sending a round of barks and meows to applaud Girl Scout Troop 1296 who stopped by last weekend to donate items for our community’s pets!

The smiles and excitement of the group was infectious, and we are so happy that they stopped by. The donations of cat, dog and small animal food, plus toys for the animals will be greatly appreciated.

Fresh off last week’s Cocktails For A Cause, our friends at Burnt Ends Barbecue have invited us back to help raise funds to help the fuzzy bums here at the GAHS.

Join us for Paint Night on Wednesday, March 5 when Ello Sunshine - Handmade Creations and Events will be guiding attendees while they create a masterpiece of their very own.

Your painting can be customized with a cat or dog image, and proceeds from your $25 registration goes directly to support our animals, programs and services.

We are pleased to report that the GAHS Pet Wellness Clinic on January 18th saw 31 community pets assisted with vaccines. If you missed out, mark your calendar for the next one which will be held on Saturday, February 15th.

During the colder months of our clinics will be held right here at the shelter on the third Saturday of each month. Starting in May, we are looking forward to getting out into the communities we serve!

These clinics are truly a group effort, along with our Vet Team and staff, we are blessed with a dedicated volunteer crew to help. From set-up to tear-down, along with all the paperwork in between, their help is immeasurable - THANK YOU!

We are also grateful to Petco Love for providing distemper vaccines which are given to pets at no charge at the clinics.

Good morning and happy Monday from Avril!

This sweet gal is ready to find her forever family! Avril came to us as a stray after being found by our local police department. She quickly became best friends with everyone here—both human and animal—because no one is a stranger to her! Avril is always quick to say hello to visitors at the shelter and absolutely loves going for walks.

We believe Avril has some hound in her, as she loves using her nose and loves using her voice just as much.

Avril has met a few dog friends here, and we’d like her to meet any potential canine siblings before heading to her new home. We also ask that the whole family comes along—kiddos or frequent young visitors included! As for feline friends, dog-savvy cats who have lived with dogs before would likely be the best fit. Avril might be a bit overwhelming for cats who haven’t been around dogs.

This winter might not be the typical one that us Mainers are used to, but it doesn’t mean that we aren’t looking for something to warm us up… Adopting a new pet may be just what you need!

Our friends at Evergreen Subaru are inviting us into their showroom on Saturday, Feb 8th to help shelter pets find their new homes! We hope to have puppies, kittens and a few small animals with us, plus have some visits from adoptable adult dogs, too. We’ll be sharing more inform on the pets available as we get closer - so make sure to keep an eye out!

We’ll also hope you’ll help us Pack the Subaru with donations for the shelter. Things like pet food, litter, bleach, laundry detergent and treats are especially helpful right now.
