With the temperatures rising over the next few days, make sure you are keeping your pets safe!! Heat exhaustion can happen in a matter of minutes, especially if you have short-snouted dogs. Avoid walking your pets in this heat, and never leave them outside for more than 5 minutes. Remember, if you can't place your hand on the ground for 5 seconds, your dog cannot walk on it!
This week’s angel is Meredith Grey! Meredith is a 5 week old kitten that was brought to the clinic after being found in the middle of Josey Lane! She was covered in fleas, anemic, dirty, and overall not in good condition. Our practice manager decided to take her in and care for this sweet one, however there are still many treatments needed to get her to her healthiest self!!

For this weeks angel, we have Sushi the cat! Sushi is a 6 year old rescue who was saved by a friend from their abusive ex. Her temperament made her difficult, so her owner's friend searched for someone who would be willing to take her in. He'll never forget the hour and a half it took to get her in the crate the day he took her home. But over the years, patience and kindness has shaped her into a loving and complex little kitty. She still has an attitude, and will hit everyone she deems to be in her way, but at night she curls up close to her owner in bed and purrs through her sleep.
In early June, after several days of refusing food, they took her to an emergency vet. After 48 hours and 3 different vets, she was diagnosed with a mass in her intestine, and her owners was told she will need it removed, along with her pancreas, and she will need a biopsy to confirm cancerous cells to further her treatment. Her owners have spent as much as they can getting her to this point, and are relying on donations to fund her continued treatment.
The money will go to her care until they can get her surgery, or until it comes time for her to pass. In that case, the funds will first go to her end of life care, including in home euthanasia and subsequent burial, and the remainder will help pay down the debt her owners have taken on to get to this point of her diagnosis.
Sushi has taught her owners that trauma does not define you. Her experiences in her youth made her scared, and she can come across as mean - but she is a lovely, warm and sweet thing when you give her a chance. Unless you have fried chicken, in which case you are just an obstacle.
Fireworks can be frightening for our furry friends! Keep pets safe this Fourth of July by creating a calm, quiet space indoors, away from noise. Provide comfort with familiar toys and soothing music to ease anxiety. 🐾

Hey ya'll! We are proud to announce that we are starting to raise money for an "angel fund"! The money that is donated will go towards pets who aren't able to get treatments due to cost. We have a lot of low income, fixed income, elderly, and less fortunate pet owners that want the best for their babies.
Each week, we will be nominating a pet for the angel fund. Their picture will be posted on all socials, as well as displayed with our angel jar in the lobby. If this sounds like your pet, please email a picture of your pet, as well as their story to [email protected].
Dr. Joy and his staff are dedicated to all their patients, no matter where they come from. If you are interested in donating, please contact us or let the receptionist know at check out!
Cashew the kitten absolutely stole our hearts today!!
Hey Castle Hills family, we are reaching out to our community for your help! This sweet kitty named Valerie was brought in by a good Samaritan after being found of the side of the highway. We believe she is about 1 year old and was dumped. She has multiple minor lacerations throughout her body, but most importantly, she is pregnant with 4 kittens! She is super sweet, not feral, and loves being cuddled.
We are reaching out to hopefully find her and possibly her kittens a good home. The nice person that brought her in is unable to care for her, but will keep her until we find her a home. Please reach out to us if you are interested in adopting this sweet girl!
For the month of August, we are offering deals on all heartworm prevention! If you purchase a ProHeart injection or 1 year of any heartworm prevention, your pet's heartworm test will come at no charge!
Heartworm disease is very prevalent in Texas, and we are in the top 10 states with the most positive cases. It is transferred through mosquitoes, and while we can treat it, it leaves permanent damage on the heart.
This is Nattie. She was brought to the clinic after being found in a truck yard. She was malnourished, dirty, and heartworm positive. One of our amazing staff members fell in love with her while she stayed with us, and she later became part of her family! Sadly though, Nattie had to go through heartworm treatment, which is not only painful for the pet, but very hard on the body. With the help of our community, we were able to raise enough money to get her the full heartworm treatment, and in 9 months she will be completely heartworm free!
Heartworm disease affects kitty cats too. In fact, 28% of indoor cats have been found to be heartworm positive. In cats, it manifests in the lungs, and there is no definitive test or any treatment available.
If your pet is not on heartworm prevention, it is never too late to start. Heartworm disease breaks our heart because it is 100% preventable, but very difficult to treat. Call us today to get your pet the preventative care they deserve!!

Dogs absolutely love our laser therapy treatments! Dreadnaught is a 135# Cane Corso and she stays so relaxed she nearly falls asleep during her sessions! She gets her hips, joints, and spine treated to promote healthy bones! Larger dogs put more strain on their joints which lead to more problems down the road. Staying on top of your large breeds joint health is important. Supplement and laser therapy are a great way to counteract any strain they can put on themselves!
