To say I've been busy is a complete understatement. I truly do apologize for everyone waiting on replies and the lack of posts lately! With both the kids being sick on and off the last two weeks. Saphira spiking up to 106Β° at times last week! π
The last two weekends being taking all my time up helping a great friend. Relocating 60+ chickens over 2.5 hrs with very short notice. While also having to find ways to appropriately accommodate them all, quickly! We also apparently now have a Goose! π
I am still also playing catch up from moving... ugh!
All of this, and the fact our first orphaned neonate hatched 6 days ago. As a reminder, neonates need to be fed EVERY 2 hrs, 24hrs a day... haha! He was the luckiest and hatched without any assistance needed.
Unfortunately, the possible issues from the temperature fluctuations during incubation, did happen for the others as I feared may be a possibility.
Chick #2 was mispositioned slightly and started trying to zip in all the wrong directions! π
So he needed a tad bit of assistance.
Chick #3, got it the worst. They were stuck in a complete breech position and pipped straight through a major blood vessel! π After over 18hrs of careful work, I did manage to get him out safely. Without a drop more of blood loss. I had to get him out tho. He started trying to force his way out, causing himself injury. Unfortunately, when this all happens another issue can arise. Which did sadly. Sweet babies yolk wouldnt absorb fully. I was prepared to potentially tie off the yolk, but the tissue just outside his abdomen. Looked very much intestinal. I did everything I could and prayed it would recede more with time. Keeping things as moist as possible. Was such a fighter, with so much umph! Even ate formula willingly twice! He lost the battle sadly tho π RIP sweet yellow lutino baby! π I so wish there was more I could do! I sure tried everything I could!
Baby #4 zipped perfectly fine, but got a bit stuck trying to push his way out of the shell. Another quick assist and they were free! Happy to eat his within the next hour!
Baby #5 is still an egg. Luckily they time up really well with Enoki's next clutch. So I slipped them in with her other 4 fertile eggs that are due soon! Eggs are always safest under a parent birb! I know just about exactly when they are due thanks to their siblings. So I will be keeping a close eye on them! They do have a slightly saddled air cell, but hopefully it won't cause any issues with hatching!
Everyone keep your fingers crossed things go well for these adorable babies!
They've all had a rough start to life, but I am doing everything I can to make sure they have a beautiful future!!! π
