If you’re worried about your dog during these hotter days, and are feeding them ice cubes to cool them, I can tell you now it’s having the opposite effect.
Ice cubes actually 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘶𝘱, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦’𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘺...
According to Chinese medicine principles, when the body ingests ice it starts to warm the body to counteract the internal cold it creates 🔥
This is why in Asia they drink warm tea to cool themselves down, as they understand this principle.
I remember in Delhi a few years back it was 40 degree heat. 𝘔𝘺 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘴.
The local women saw this, and despite the language barrier, quietly slipped my feet into a warm basin of water.
At the time it confused me, as it was before I trained in Five Elements Chinese medicine for animals, but I went along with it as I really needed the help!
And it brought 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘧 as it resolved the stagnation I was experiencing & got the blood fluids moving again.
And this ties in nicely with the second reason why not to feed your dog ice cubes, 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦.
Which can eventually lead to more serious issues.
So if you want to cool them down in a way that works in harmony with their body, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝...
🐾 Put out two bowls of water. In the first bowl have plain water & in the second add a few pinches of sea salt.
🐾 Salt has a cooling effect on the body and dogs know when & how often they need to drink it.
🐾 All you need to do is make it available to them and enjoy watching them self select between the two.
