Virginia has taught me a lot. Now it’s time to move on to a new chapter.
JH Sporthorses is heading back west, from the Blue Ridge ⛰️ to the Bluegrass 🌾 !
I’ll be focusing on curating a program for backing and bringing up youngsters in a growing warmblood breeding program. If anyone is looking for a fancy and flashy (the farm is loaded with chrome) show pony, hit me up later!

Most of the time, breaking babies is really boring, mundane, and monotonous- that is, if you’re doing it right.

Shaking off those winter blues the best way. ❤️🐴🐺
It’s easy to feel behind the ball when you aren’t able to compete all winter, but you are only ever in competition with your own goals.
Bonus, the horses love the winter vacation and they come out of the break healthier and happy to go again.

Tryon Summer 4 started hot and ended hot! 🔥

Fox was a perfect gentleman and put down super consistent rounds with the lovely junior rider we found to catch ride, and ended up with a second in the 3’6 Junior Hunter Classic. 🥈

Cooper continued with an upwards trajectory all week and finished strong with a Reserve Champion ribbon in the Young Hunters division and a ninth in the Adult Hunter Classic - his first 3’ Classic! 🏆

Another great time at Tryon! 🙌🏽💪🏽
We love it when it all comes together! ❤️

July starting off hot(literally and figuratively) with a solid day 1 of Tryon Summer 4. Cooper and Kristen laid down some solid work walking into the 3’ Greens, and Fox pulled ribbons in the 3’3 Performance with Joanna (video below).

Very happy with the work Daryl has been doing with Monster’s feet; very chuffed to have such a great working relationship that he agrees to try something new.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you are doing just fine.

Stop beating yourself up for not riding when it’s freezing cold, pitch black and raining. It’s ok (and normal) to have no motivation at this time of year. It doesn’t make you a bad rider (or a bad owner).

Stop feeling guilty that your horse isn’t even nearly competition fit yet. Take your time and make your plan, who cares if you’re not ready for the first event? There’s a whole calendar to chose from.

Stop agonising over the fact you haven’t spent the whole winter training. Riders need a break and horses do to, you’ll probably find your horse comes back better than if they’d spent the whole winter being hammered in clinics and lessons anyway.

Stop comparing yourself to riders who have more facilities, more time or a totally different set of circumstances to you. Everyone is on their own track and has their own goals, so eyes ahead and focus on yours.

Stop telling yourself that your horse “deserves better” or is “wasted” with you. As long as your horse is fed and warm, they are quite happy, riding does not complete their life.

Winter is hard. It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s dark and it feels never ending and berating yourself for everything you aren’t doing or feel you should be doing won’t make it any easier, so cut yourself some slack and just take a breath.

You are doing just fine.

Best of luck to “Jack”s future trail career! (This is Jimmy’s half brother on the sire side.)

Ribbons are a bonus, your own journey forward is what matters most.

Ribbons are lovely mementos and symbols, but be careful... when you allow ribbons to tell you if you have done a good job, then their absence will try to tell you that it was bad. And that is never the whole story.

Although one mistake can deny you a ribbon, one mistake cannot negate the positive growth, teamwork and joy that exists in every single ride. Always carry your own goals and progress closest to your heart. 💙💗💙

Lexington National is always a marathon of a show. 😆
I’m incredibly chuffed with all the clients and horses. 🤩
Smooth performances paid off with some good ribbons in tough competition; and even when we didn’t pin, I couldn’t be prouder because they were working hard on improving their riding and making changes.
Much love to my barn family for trusting and believing in me. ❤️⭐️

Does your horse have a preference when grazing? Monster loves dandelions best. 🌼

Joe cut some new bridle paths through the woods out back, had to check them out with Jeffy and Tifa this morning.

Having a great day as trainer!

Kristen and Cooper exercised some demons from the previous day and laid down the nicest rounds in two weeks! They picked up a 3rd in the always competitive preAdults and a classic ribbon in the combined challenge round. 💪🏽

Monster had a great jump school; feeling fresh and continuing to improve his form after a full week of showing at his new height. ⭐️

AND Payton took Bert to his first local show at Morven Park and put in some super adorable rounds in the hunter ring and also picked up a 3rd in a huge division! 🏅

I’m super chuffed and so incredibly proud of everyone!

Big thanks to Sarah for helping feed the ponies left at home. 🙌🏽

And, of course, endless gratitude and love to Joe for being my steady rock at home and making it possible for me to go away and always supporting me. ❤️❤️❤️

It’s been a great show to get back into the groove. Ready to kick on for the next! 🏇🏽

Schoolmaster pint-sized superstar. Can be a little hesitant off the ground at times. Probably best with a confident handler. Not spooky, just not interested in working harder than she has to. Tidy front end, phenomenal hind end. Needs minor maintenance(joint supplement). Can occasionally have an opinion and has the “mare stare” down pat. Easily bribed with food and snacks.

Schooled up yesterday and made our debut in the 6/7yo combined jumper with a double clean in the rain today! Still plenty to work on and improve, but now we have the first one under our belts. 😍🐴💪🏽
