If you’ve been following sweet senior Samson’s freedom journey, he is on his way to his final destination in New York!
Samson originally came into our shelter as a stray on 12/18. Through his microchip his owner was located. Sadly his owner didn’t want him back. The shelter is no place for a senior dog. Fortunately, an amazing rescue stepped up and arranged for his rescue. Samson had a “pit stop” in North Carolina for several days (there were some delays due to weather) and is now currently on the final leg of his journey. Once there he will receive full vetting and his heartworm treatment will begin.
Rescue is never pretty and can be heartbreaking, but stories like Samson’s gives us all hope and the power to keep fighting the battles for these amazing animals. There are still so many animals that need help. If you want to help, please support rescues. They are always in need of volunteers, fosters, transporters, and donations. That in turn helps us. When rescues have help, they then can help and pull from shelters!

Tomorrow Sat. 1/11/25 the shelter will not be open till 11am due to weather and for the safety of our staff with the roads being icy.

Eagle Scout Matthew Keisler brought some warmth to this cold day by bringing us care packages for the animals! As part of his Eagle Scout project Matthew collected food, toys, leashes, and treats and assembled them into care packages. We cannot thank this young man enough for his thoughtful and caring gifts❤️

Friendly Reminder!!

COLD WEATHER IS HERE!!!!!

Reminder that per County Ordinance
SEC.10-42
(c) No dog, tethered or untethered, shall be left outside unattended for 30 minutes or longer during a two (2) hour period when:
(1) The temperatures are below 40° Fahrenheit for a sustained two (2) hour period, unless adequate bedding and shelter as defined in this chapter are provided to protect the animal from the elements.

Also with temperatures getting below freezing we want to make sure the pets of Lexington County stay warm. We've gotten hundreds of these dog sweaters we would like to give out for FREE. You would need to come to the front office and we will get you the size you need for your pet.

Happy Freedom Day for Samson! Samson is a sweet senior that had came in as a stray and the poor baby's owner did not want him back🥺💔 An AMAZING rescue Animals R Family stepped up sent a plane for him through Pilots N Paws✈️! We love you Samson and we are so happy for you!🐾💕

Eddie wants to spend Christmas with you this year!

Eddie has been in the shelter 103 days. He is a 5 year old, neutered male, and FIV positive. All he wants for Christmas is a family to spend the holidays with.

What does owning a FIV positive cat mean?

FIV- Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Only cats can get this virus)

FIV does not make the cat sick but it suppresses the immune system making it hard for them to fight off disease. This is mainly transmitted by fighting wounds.

FIV CATS MUST LIVE INDOORS ONLY!

🚨PLEASE SHARE!!🚨All of these precious pups are strays! Some of their time is up but we are holding onto hope for either rescue or possibly their owner just didn't know to come here looking for them🥺
All of the dogs listed here are other dog friendly and are SUPER sweet! As most shelters find themselves, we as well are full. We try our best to make this a loving environment but it is not the same as a home. If you happen to recognize one of them PLEASE let their owner know! If you happen to know of a 501c3 rescue that could help PLEASE pass this along!
We also have our Save-A-Pet program. Through this program you can basically adopt the pet (as is). The pet may possibly need further medical and spay/neuter. We can assist with making an appointment and offer a voucher for Lexington County residents. Every pet will be fully vaccinated, microchipped, and Heartworm tested.
