WINTER STORM ALERT

You may have heard of the massive winter storm creating havoc in the Eastern US. Unfortunately, here in Kentucky we're getting quite a bit of snow and ice accumulating. So far we've been fortunate enough to keep power and fingers cross we weather the storm unscathed! 🤞

While we have been so looking forward to shipping out orders after the holiday, it would be totally dangerous and irresponsible for us to ship this week. The frigid temps combined with mass delays across the region make shipping anything alive rather dicey. Even if you're fortunate enough to live somewhere warm, our area airports are grounded, and there's no guarantees they'll catch their scheduled flights out of this frozen tundra. We appreciate your patience as we work to get your animals to you safely!

We will continue to ship dry goods orders, though the few I sent last week seem to still be caught up in the holiday (and now weather) delays.

SNOW DAY ACTIVITES

We're not taking this time off! While we're snowed in, we'll be working this week on getting caught up from the holidays. We'll be going through all the messages and pending orders (sending shipping invoices to folks who need them, correcting addresses, etc...) so keep an eye on your email!

We’re thrilled to share some monumental news for the Genetic Hypo project! Bella, our exceptional 20-month-old female, weighing in at a solid 50 grams, has been paired with Maurice, our Genetic Hypo male. This pairing is not just exciting—it’s groundbreaking.

Here’s why this pairing is so significant:

🐾 Incredible Genetic Potential: Every offspring from this pairing will inherit at least one copy of the Genetic Hypo (now Fire) gene—there will be no normals in this clutch. Additionally, with both parents carrying the Fire gene, 50% of the offspring are expected to be Blizzards, the stunning Black Eyed Leucistic super form. The remaining 50% will display the hallmark translucent traits and reduced patterning of single-gene Fire geckos.

🧬 Health First: This pairing is also a critical step in proving the long-term viability of this project. By pairing Bella to Maurice and producing healthy Blizzard offspring, we aim to demonstrate that this gene is robust enough to be safely and responsibly reproduced.

But that’s not the only major update we have to share…

Introducing the Fire Gene: A New Name for Genetic Hypo
As we’ve worked with the Genetic Hypo project over the years, we’ve realized the original name doesn’t fully do justice to this morph’s unique characteristics. To better represent its traits and avoid confusion with other hypo morphs, we’ve decided to rebrand the Genetic Hypo as the Fire Gene.

What is the Fire Gene?
The Fire Gene is an incomplete dominant trait with truly unique characteristics. Here’s what makes it special:

🔥 Appearance: Single-gene Fire geckos have translucent qualities and reduced patterns that age into a smoky, grey appearance. Young Fire geckos often display a “bright” color phase as juveniles, adding to their visual appeal. Some individuals exhibit distinctive head stamps.

❄️ Blizzard Super Form: When two copies of the Fire gene are present, the gecko becomes a Blizzard, also known as Black Eyed Leucistic. These geckos are entirely patternless with a clean, solid white or light grey look and striking black eyes.

🧬 Interaction with Other Morphs: The Fire gene interacts with other traits by enhancing contrast and altering pattern visibility. While we are still exploring the full potential of this gene, it has shown promise in producing clean, visually distinct offspring when paired with other morphs.

Why Fire?
The name Fire perfectly captures the essence of this incredible gene. Across many species, Fire genes are known for producing Black Eyed Leucistics—a perfect match for our Blizzard super form. This new name ensures clarity and highlights the uniqueness of this morph in the crested gecko community.

From now on, you’ll see us refer to this gene as Fire in all posts, updates, and listings. The transition will roll out over the next few weeks.

HOLIDAY SHIPPING

Plan ahead this holiday season! With both Christmas AND New Year's falling smack-dab in the middle of the week (and during one of the coldest times of the year) We don't plan to ship much (other than dry goods) the last couple weeks of the year. That means DECEMBER 10th and 17th are our LAST regular shipping days until JANUARY 7th!

Local (Lexington) pickup is still available, and you can catch us at the LAST EXPO of the year THIS SATURDAY at KRE!

Get your stuff-SAFELY! This time of year it's important to plan your LIVE ANIMAL shipments! We're happy to work with you. Here's the benefits of both options:

OVERNIGHT:
Shipments are given top priority and are usually delivered earlier in the day (meaning they're first on the delivery route, minimalizing time on the back of a truck). We currently only have 40hr heat packs, which will not last a full 2 days. Often 2Day shipments are not delivered until late afternoon/evening. You can purchase an upgrade on the website, or email us for an invoice.
HAL:
Skip the delivery trucks all together and have your package held for pickup at your nearest FedEx HUB (not a print center, Walgreen's, etc..). Your package goes right off the plane to a climate controlled room for safe keeping until you pick it up. This is a great option if you're worried about being home for delivery, too. Make sure the name on the order is the person who's picking it up, as you are required to show a photo ID (also a great option if you're worried about porch pirates). Your package is usually ready for pickup early, too! You can add HAL at no additional fee to overnight or 2 day shipments!

If your package is running late, it SUPER IMPORTANT you contact us right away!

New hides, who dis? We're re-designing our hides to be better than ever! We have our unique mushroom hides re-launching soon with a whole line of NEW COLORS! While you're waiting, we have the original hand painted ones on CLEARANCE. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the old design, and this is your chance to get an OG one before they're gone. We're working to re-vamp our current designs and add more variety, so stay tuned!
