I hope y’all have been staying warm and cozy these last few days!! ❄️
The weather has caused the store to close as well as the schools here and around the state. I plan on going in to @locallexmarket whenever possible to check out which microgreens have made new homes, and to mark down what’s left as their “enjoy by” date is coming up!
I’ve got more kale, broccoli, and wasabi growing which will be ready to harvest soon as well!
Be sure to go wander around this awesome store and see what goodies you can find 🤩
Also— the refrigerated that my microgreens are in is shown towards the end of the video! 💚🌱
Woohoo! Day 1 in a real brick and mortar, y’all! 🎉
Head on down to @locallexmarket and check out all the awesome vendors and their creations!
I have my micros “enjoy by” date set as 10 days from harvest but they have lasted up to 3 weeks in the fridge! That being said, the nutritional value decreases as time goes on so to get the most bang for your buck, it’s best to consume as fresh as possible (as with any produce)!
Now time to get some more trays started and sow seeds for the next round!
I’m curious— out of these varieties, which would you be most interested to try?
🌱Kale
🌱Broccoli
🌱Wasabi
🌱Pea
🌱Sunflower
🌱Superfood mix
Did your new years goals include something about your health, including diet and exercise? Mine did.
I don’t want to just grow and sell microgreens. I want to help people with their goals of having a healthier lifestyle. My birthday is coming up and with age comes wisdom, and I want take better care of my body because it’s the only one I get.
Adding in small daily habits can make a world of difference by this time next year. When you consciously make one healthy decision, you’ll be proud of yourself and will be more likely to continue on that path.
My friend’s resolution is to not eat sugar for one year, she has her sights set high! If you’d like to try for smaller feats, you could—
🟢Go for a walk more often
✨Eat some veggies in the morning
🟢Try a workout/yoga/meditation video
✨Make a yummy smoothie
🟢Have some fruit if you crave sugar
✨Take a group fitness class
🟢Be mindful of your hydration
✨Track your steps to improve your averages
🟢Make more meals at home
✨Dance around whenever you’re stressed
🟢Add some microgreens into your diet🌱
What’s something you would add to the list? How are you going to take the leap and bet on yourself?
Yea, it’ll be scary, but it’ll be worth it. 💚
This was the last harvest before our vacation!
Seed sowing will begin when we return, as well as a new chapter for GreenLeaf! Super excited for what’s coming next 🤗🌱✨
Harvesting a tray of Organic Wasabi Mustard for a friend from high school! Thanks for your order, Cody!
Coming up on 3 months of GreenLeaf MicroFarm! All of your love and support is incredibly appreciated💚🙌🌱
As always, reach out to place your order today! Right now I have seeds to grow this beautiful wasabi, as well as kale, broccoli, and pea! I’ll be buying more seeds coming up and am open to requests!✨
Real life behind the scenes of the grow op!🌱
I had two green grow trays stacked that needed to be cleaned and sanitized. I forgot that one of the stainless steel reusable mesh grow mediums still had left over microgreen stems and roots after being harvested.
So, this is a couple days later when it had allll dried out. I scraped the top side, flipped it over, and the white leftovers you see are the dried roots.
It ain’t pretty, but it’s part of the process when using a reusable medium instead of throwing out coco fiber pads after every grow. It’s sparkly clean now and ready for the next round of seeds!
It’s a little extra work to scrape them off, clean, and sanitize them, but it makes my sustainability heart happy. 💚
Bonus— you get to see my little cutie playing in the grass which he absolutely loves. You don’t see the multiple times I had to keep him from eating it 😅
Harvest day for the Red Russian Kale microgreens!🌱
Wait til the end to see the super long and healthy roots created from this hydroponic system, using a stainless steel reusable grow medium!
This is a super clean and streamlined way to grow microgreens!
✨Clean because no soil, pesticides or fertilizers are used, only pure filtered water.
✨Streamlined because laying a stainless steel mesh sheet into the tray is much simpler than measuring out soil or pre-soaking and drying the coco fiber pads.
✨There’s also no waste because the reusable mesh is scraped clean and sanitized, and any extra plant matter is given to my neighbor’s chickens 🐓
There’s many different ways to grow microgreens, and this particular combination of a couple different systems and methods is working out well for me! 🙌
Is it corny that I want a Kale Yeah shirt? Lol
Day 1 has begun for this round of Red Russian Kale microgreens!
So, the first time I used the reusable stainless steel mesh grow medium, I had it sitting on top of the “light diffuser egg crate” that I use while sowing the seeds. It served the purpose of lifting the mesh and allowing room for the roots to grow down, but didn’t let the water flow easily underneath.
This time I’m still using the egg crate but I also combined it with the hydro spacers that are typically used for the coco fiber grow pads.
I’m betting on these two combined to be the key to having good structural support for the somewhat flimsy mesh, and the need for it to be lifted and also allow the flow of water below.
Learning, experimenting, and always growing 💚🌱✨
Very small root hairs form to help the roots absorb water, which is then distributed through the plant’s stem and up to the leaves.
Look closely at how they disappear once they get the drink of water they’re looking for! 🤓🌱
About a 10ish minute video sped up to 24 seconds cuz I know y’all don’t have the attention spans for all that lol. Although it is peaceful and cathartic for me.
Also, trying to not be so methodical and precise when sowing the seeds because the pros that I watch do not take it so seriously. When I mentioned the ocd coming out in the beginning, I wasn’t kidding 🤪
Another goofy thing.. I realized I measured my seeds out in grams instead of milliliters which were per city-hydro’s instructions. Oops. I ended up just pouring the leftovers back into the 5lb bags.
Round 2 of a split tray of Organic Wasabi Mustard and Red Russian Kale!
#alwayslearning 😅
Harvest dayyy! The organic speckled pea microgreens were super ready for harvesting and I had fun doing it! I had two trays that were under lights and grown normally, and one tray I kept in the dark the whole time which turned out yellow and a little sweeter, as expected! 🌱
I thought it was only fitting to wear my Plant Magic shirt, hand dyed with indigo leaves at @amongtheoaksfarm Local supporting local! I haven’t worn tie dye regularly in years, but when I saw how cool the process was, I couldn’t pass it up! Plus, plant magic is where it’s at 💙✨
Morning of day 7! Officially 24 hours under lights and these peas are looking happy!
Not shown is the one tray I’m keeping in the dark to stay yellow (see day 5 caption). My customer at Spice Of Life said she’d like to see some color variation, so I’m giving yellow a try! I’ll show their progress tomorrow :)
🔆🌱💛
Speckled pea seed sowing day! The seeds are the size of an actual pea.. much larger than the radish seeds. Day 1 of germination is underway, and tomorrow the radish crop will be ready to eat! Cheers to greens!🥂
So I was going to start off slow with the one tray that I made yesterday, but turns out my first customer needs two trays for next weekend! So I made more and decided to finish off the rest of the seeds. One pound of seeds down, 25 more on the way! 🥰🌱*side note— getting used to this whole making videos thing. I think it’s so tiny because I had my phone vertical instead of horizontal lol. All kinds of learning happening!
Turns out you should probably use a measuring tape the first time when the shelves are supposed to be exactly 10 inches apart 😅 But it’s compete! Next step is attaching the lighting ✨
The official unboxing video for my City-Hydro pure grow kit! 🎉
This is the first video I’ve edited so bear with me! Also, there actually isn’t an unboxing video for this company on YouTube so I may be uploading it on a new page there as well.
Comment below something that you learned and/or a question you have after watching!👇
