I have made the tough decision to close my books for taking outside horses for the time being, with lots of upcoming life events will take a lot of my time. I will reopen my books at some point next year for select clients, but for the time being I will only be available for consignment, and haul-in / offsite lessons! Client horse “LB” is coming along slowly, but surely! Shes on ride 4 currently and doing great, walk/trot/lope both ways. Hoping to have her graduated to a bridle this week! I have really got to get better about getting pictures and videos, this one is 2 weeks old 🥴🤣

Adhara has been with me for the last 60 days to be started and have a foundation put on her. She w/t/c with no funny business, picks up correct leads, stops and backs. Has been hauled to town a couple of times to ride and stood tied at the trailer all afternoon and just about forgot she was there, she was so quiet! She has been taken out on the trails and was a nice ride. Has had a rope swung off of her a couple of times and dragged a barrel around the arena! This filly is going to be super nice when shes finished out, and can go in any direction!

3yo BLM Mustang Day 1 - Day 100
This little filly has come SO FAR since she arrived here at the end of March. She was definitely one of the more challenging horses I’ve worked with, but she was by far the most rewarding horse I‘ve had come through my program. She made me work HARD for every step in the right direction, and taught me a lot. She went from being fearful, explosive and downright dangerous to decently confident and pretty laid back. She will be boarding here for a while until her owner can find a boarding situation for her, so I’ll be able to help her owner get on the same page with her and get both of their confidence built up!

Very productive morning for Fancy! She got her first flying lead changes and is riding around like a dead broke lesson pony! She goes home next week and although I’m glad shes going home to her girl, I’ve bonded with her over the last 90 days and I’ll be a little sad to see her go!

Successful first ride for Adhara this morning, easy w/t/l quietly both ways with no funny business! This little filly is so smart and I can’t wait to see how she finishes out!

Some horses are naturally talented athletes and they tend to make training a little easier and quicker.

Some horses need to be developed.

Some need to be taught how to carry themselves and how to use themselves in order to be efficient.

Some can be trained in a few months and some take years.

Some of the horses just need age and maturity to be physically or mentally ready to compete.

In other words, horses are just like people—

Some have anxiety.
Some are never consistent.
Some are always goofing off.
Some horses are all business and have a lot of try and some just can’t handle pressure.

But in the end—
Great horses make great trainers giving great trainers the ability to make good horses into great ones.

Great day in barrel racer land with my crew 🤑
Flash ran a 16.4 to be 2D 7th, not too shabby for his first run back in 7 months!
Zoom made his first run to the left and had a little goober moment at the third and took the scenic route around it, and ended up turning in a 19.5 😵‍💫 he held it together really well though so I’m proud of him regardless!
Client horse Lena made a nice pass to be 3D 3rd check, she worked great! Thank you Bryan Sikes for the amazing pics!!

Win or lose—be a good sport.

If a run didn’t go as planned, there is no excuse for snatching and jerking on your horse as you leave the arena.

Don’t take your frustration out on the horse because you didn’t prepare for the event, you didn’t do your job during the run, or you hit a barrel.

Majority of the time, it was rider error in the arena that caused the mistake.

Take responsibility and hold yourself accountable.

Before and after of Jag, 9yo OTQH gelding! He was extremely front end heavy and bracey when I first started working with him, and would get flat coming into the turn and lock me out and then scramble around on the backside. Now he really works off my leg and hand, and uses that powerful hind end so much better! I was super excited to send this one home!

Fancy, 3yo Day 3 vs Day 46

I have held off on posting updates on this mare, as for quite a while there was nothing to report. Although she was sweet as pie when you approached her and handled her, she was flighty, reactive, and combative when fleeing wasn’t option when working with her. She would kick HARD and accurately at anything that moved and anything that didn’t. And had no problem bulldozing you over if something behind her startled her. After weeks of extensive groundwork, I was still absolutely sure that her first ride was going to be explosive and set her up for failure. So I kept pressing on with ponying her off other horses, leaning over her, leaving her saddled for hours on end until she quit kicking the stirrups and her belly trying to get the cinches off, getting on and off repeatedly and occasionally I’d have her step around a bit. Yesterday she finally told me that she was ready for her first ride. Usually I start in the roundpen but I knew that if she blew, we needed some room to work it out so that we didn’t trash any panels 🤣 she rode off like she was already greenbroke and really put her trust in me. We have bonded pretty tightly over the last couple of weeks and she really comes to me when she’s unsure. Its such an incredible feeling to have a mustang choose you. Its unlike any other! **tstarting
