WHAT IN THE BUCKET?!
When I tell people I sell equine supplements, one of two things happen: people think I’m one of THOSE people....ya know the kind who feed Fluffy 10 lbs of sweet feed on top of 8 different supplements....OR they think I don’t use any and just want to make money. Both are wrong.
Supplements are meant to be a small part of a balanced and complete ration! Here’s an example of what my two barrel horses actually get.
Eleanor:
🚫 Bleeder Daily. With her previous owner she had a EIPH incident, so she gets this on a daily basis, combined with Lasix when she competes.
🔥 E-charge electrolytes. It’s HOT outside right now, so all my horses get electrolytes. They are especially important for a horse like El because she’s a heavy sweater during workouts plus it’s critical for a bleeder to be given electrolytes after Lasix.
⭐️ some left over performance mare product that I’ve pulled Smash off since I need to detect her heat cycle, and two treats.
Smash:
🏆 XT10 joint supplement. She’s 16 with some early arthritis. XT10 also has digestive, respiratory, and soft tissue support.
🔥 E-charge electrolytes again!
I also give a garlic supplement to my herd to help with flies and ticks, *except* for Eleanor, because garlic can cause anemia in horses sooo the last thing I want a horse with EIPH to have is something that would increase her risk of bleeding.
So at max I give a horse three supplements and each horse gets what they actually need instead of everyone getting the same. Keep it simple!!
