The Lexington dog show is happening Thursday-Monday and Arwen will be there showing! Her classes resume next Wednesday. Other classes, camp and daycare will run as normal. Come visit us by the rally ring if you’re interested in seeing the team compete or just come for the shopping! All information is available at the Bluegrass Classic Dog Show!

Tuesday is Snuffle Mat day for our daycare dogs!!
Tomorrow is Snuffle Mat day!!! Our enrichment activity tomorrow will be snuffle mats. These are a great way for dogs to use their nose and tactile senses to find food tucked between layers of the mat.

What a fantastic weekend for our BDTA dogs!! We had dogs at UKC show in Cynthiana and the AKC obedience/rally trial at Competitive Edge in Louisville.
Seoras and Bentley entered the obedience ring and both qualified in their beginner novice classes, each with a win as well!!
Bentley and Ellis both tried off leash rally in Advanced for the first time and again qualified and won their classes!!
Little Julep had her conformation debut and won her breed in every class and ended the weekend with a group 3!
Flynn got his rally choice title and some much deserved masters point and Justy earned her rally intermediate title!
Farley had his first entry into the rally ring and did amazing with a score of 97 and Mack stepped in into the intermediate ring with a great run and qualifying score!
Redford had a perfect weekend in rally with 6/6 wins and high combined and triple both days. He also tried out open obedience with great enthusiasm!
Congratulations to everyone on all their brags, hopefully we didn’t miss anyone!!
We are so excited to be adding enrichment activities to daycare!
We are so excited!!! As dog trainers one of the most important things about our day care is that our dogs go home happy with both their body and brain having exercised during the day!! We will be introducing enrichment activities throughout August, starting with tomorrow, which is Puzzle Day! Puzzles are great form of enrichment which uses sense of smell and problem solving. If your pup has diet restrictions feel free to bring some of their food or treats so they can play too!!
We love Thursdays at daycare!!!

Our advanced classes working off leash on fronts and jumps! These dogs did do well, it’s a big step up to come off leash as well as work with the excitement of a jump out on the course.
Rally class last night treated everyone to a serpentine. Despite looking simple this sign actually requires excellent communication with body language to let the dog know which direction is next. Check out these teams and see if you can pick out the different handlers cues!
Did you know competition obedience can be fun? Short exercises and big parties were the theme of tonight’s class! Many of these dogs regularly compete in Rally so they are learning to read their handlers body language instead of verbal praise. It’s safe to say the dogs are all loving this new game!

We had a make up session for our agility classes yesterday and had lots of fun working on 180 turns with different crosses. The dogs were just happy to be out before the heat!

Friday is for play!!
Listen as Arwen explains teaching a dog to ‘crawl’ this is one of several tricks taught in our CGC/Tricks class and is great as it requires no props or special equipment to set up!
One of the things we love about day camp is the opportunity for our dogs to get play time between training sessions!!
Watch Beans work his enrichment puzzle in class! These puzzles are great for a variety of things- they teach persistence when challenging, engage the brain and nose, and teach discrimination. Notice that Beans didn’t take off the last puzzle pieces because he knew there weren’t any treats in those spots!!
Last night in agility we focused on ‘go on’. This skill teaches dogs to drive forward ahead of their handlers and is incorporated into several directional verbal cues to communicate on course with the dog.
Several of our students traveled to Gem City Dog Obedience Club for a rally/obedience trial. Everyone did amazingly, we are especially proud of Beans and Bruni doing their figure 8 with toy distractions!
Last night we worked on distractions!! The focus was teaching the dogs to reengage with their handlers quickly after being distracted. We started with a couple of toys on the course and ended with Arwen sitting by the start line, a leaf, more toys, an umbrella and food!
Possibly the fastest run of the weekend!
