Kindly remember to schedule all of your pets for their spa appointments. We have encountered situations where additional pets were brought in without prior scheduling, leading to unexpected delays and disruptions in our appointments. This not only affects the care provided to our already scheduled patients but also creates challenges in our day-to-day operations. In order to maintain efficiency and ensure the best possible care for all pets, we kindly ask that you schedule all pets in advance. Let's give a warm welcome to our two newest additions at LTVC! Our new veterinary assistant will be working on Mondays and Wednesdays. Madison, a former Locust Trace student, is spending the summer with us to develop her veterinary medicine skills. She has already shown a remarkable ability to provide emotional support, making a positive impact on our patients. We are happy to have her join our team.

In addition, please welcome Vader, our newest feline patient, who has quickly become a favorite with his affectionate and playful personality. 🐈‍⬛🐾

Please be cautious if you frequent the lake with your pets! 🚤

Redgate algal blooms can be very dangerous for pets, especially dogs. This is because red tide, a type of harmful algal bloom (HAB) caused by the Karenia brevis algae, produces potent brevetoxins. Here's why and how your pets can be affected:

Ingestion: Pets can get sick from drinking water contaminated with red tide, or by licking their fur after swimming in it. Some dogs are attracted to the smell of algae.

Eating Contaminated Materials: Pets can ingest toxins by eating dead fish or shellfish that have accumulated the brevetoxins.

Inhalation: Brevetoxins can become airborne, leading to respiratory issues for pets.

Symptoms of Red Tide (Brevetoxin)
Exposure in Pets:

Neurological: Tremors, seizures, stumbling, paralysis, Disorientation, Muscle twitching or rigidity

Gastrointestinal:
Vomiting and diarrhea, Excessive drooling, Loss of appetite

Respiratory:
Difficulty breathing, Shortness of breath, coughing, or sneezing

Important Considerations:

Severity: Symptoms can develop rapidly, potentially becoming life-threatening within minutes to hours.

No Antidote: There are no known antidotes for red tide toxins; supportive care is the only treatment available.

Prevention is Crucial: The best approach is to avoid exposing your pets to water with red tide.

If you suspect your pet has been exposed to a Redgate or other harmful algal bloom, seek immediate veterinary care. 🩺🐶

Health officials have confirmed a harmful algal bloom at Paradise Camp on Herrington Lake, with a second bloom detected near Tanyard Branch, also known as Redgate.

We have a client looking to rehome this sweet boy. His name is Lou, and he is 4 years old. His owner believes he would do better in a home with another bunny to keep him company or someone who can keep him busy.
