Cats Unlimited Our primary mission is to offer a low cost Spay and Neuter Program to our citizen

Cats Unlimited is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the non-lethal control of cats in Rockbridge County and the Cities of Buena Vista and Lexington. Together we can provide our community with a non-lethal approach to resolving the overpopulation problem with cats and kittens that plague our local shelter and residents. We can educate the public about the importance of spaying a

nd neutering and how this will reduce the number of cats and kittens that will die in our local shelter every year. We can also make sure that every cat and kitten that we come in contact with is spayed or neutered so that as a group we never add to the overpopulation problem. We intend to continue this work until every cat and kitten we can help is found a home and cared for.

With temperatures reaching 92° today and 90° Monday, it’s important to remember the reason why dogs cannot be left in hot cars.

With our weather forecast, in just 7–8 minutes, the inside of a car can hit 110°. Dogs can suffer heat stroke in as little as 15 minutes. In Virginia, you can receive a misdemeanor for leaving your dog in the car, and if they die, a felony offense.

If you’re headed somewhere pets aren’t allowed, leave them safely at home, not in the car.

TNR benefits your community in many ways:

• Colonies that are involved in TNR diminish in size over time.
• Relieves cats of the constant stresses of mating and pregnancy.
• Mating behaviors decrease, such as roaming, yowling, spraying and fighting.
• Cat's physical health improves.
• Cats are vaccinated against rabies.
• Lower shelter intake numbers, mean less taxpayer dollars needed.

In addition to fixing and vaccinating, basic medical care can be provided while the cat is under anesthesia such as treatment for worms, fleas, ear mites or ticks. If there is an infection, antibiotics can be administered. You see, it's not JUST about fixing, but making sure that every cat is better off than when you found it.

If you are not onboard the TNR Train yet, what are you waiting for?! No program in your area? No problem, create one! Grab a trap and help the kitties whenever you can. We can all help our homeless feline friends. 💜

Cats are not disposable like trash, they are living breathing creatures that require the proper care! If you get a cat, if you feed a community cat, please make sure they are spayed or neutered to eliminate the current crisis for shelters and rescues!
