Cats Unlimited is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the non-lethal control of cats in Rockbridge County and the Cities of Buena Vista and Lexington. Together we can provide our community with a non-lethal approach to resolving the overpopulation problem with cats and kittens that plague our local shelter and residents. We can educate the public about the importance of spaying a

nd neutering and how this will reduce the number of cats and kittens that will die in our local shelter every year. We can also make sure that every cat and kitten that we come in contact with is spayed or neutered so that as a group we never add to the overpopulation problem. We intend to continue this work until every cat and kitten we can help is found a home and cared for.

We're crazy full and busy.....and this community always steps up when we need it...Bless you all. We are in need of someone that could come a couple of times ONE DAY A WEEK, just to check on the babies at the kennel, to feed the tiny kittens lunch, to clean alittle at lunch times and to check before the evening is done and to see that all the babies are good for the night.....IF YOU ARE A CRAZY CAT LADY OR MAN....we really need someone who can come just the one day a week.....maybe on Wednesdays OR Fridays?? The days are getting shorter, so it's more likely that you'll be driving at dawn and dusk when wildlife is naturally more active.

October through November are the most common months of the year for wildlife collisions when driving. Please be cautious when driving, especially at dawn and dusk. Here are a few tips to help you and wildlife stay safe.

1. Reduce your speed when you can. This allows more reaction time for you and wildlife.
2. Scan the roadway and surrounding land for wildlife that may cross the road.
3. Avoid distracted driving.
4. When safe and appropriate to do so, use your high beams to spot wildlife near roadways sooner.

Furever Friends is blessed with great volunteers. About 25! They come AM or PM to the kennel to clean, feed and love on the babies. It's a labor of love. Each volunteer is family for us. One of our volunteers took a mishap and has a broken leg!! Oh no! So to not put more on her we're asking for a substitute afternoon volunteers. From 3:30 to ? (About an hour). Would you like to help and join our group? Must love cats, willing to scoop a p**p, feed, clean up and maybe rock and love a kitty! We'll send you an application from our email address! Next time you're looking for a new feline friend, please consider adopting a senior cat!

Most everyone wants a cute little kitten, the kind that will fit in the palm of your hand. Many want a young adult that still acts like a kitten but doesn't have the energy of a kitten. Few want a senior because they tend to be more laid back. So many senior cats that find themselves at the shelter are there through no fault of their own. Perhaps their owner could no longer take care of them, had to move to a facility and couldn't take them or passed away. (Sometimes, the owner just wants a kitten and turns the senior cat over to a shelter and then goes out and adopts a kitten. Don't get us started on those people.) These cats end up at the shelter, heartbroken and homeless. They still need someone to love and they still want a home of their own. Please consider being their savior. They still have lots of love to give. The next time you're at the shelter, please consider a senior cat.

Our Christmas sale is going on right now at the VFW Post on Hwy 60. We will be open today until 3 pm and tomorrow from 9 am - 1 pm. Stop by, we have great stuff and you will be helping a great cause.
