Cats Unlimited

Cats Unlimited Our primary mission is to offer a low cost Spay and Neuter Program to our citizen

Cats Unlimited is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to the non-lethal control of cats in Rockbridge County and the Cities of Buena Vista and Lexington. Together we can provide our community with a non-lethal approach to resolving the overpopulation problem with cats and kittens that plague our local shelter and residents. We can educate the public about the importance of spaying a

nd neutering and how this will reduce the number of cats and kittens that will die in our local shelter every year. We can also make sure that every cat and kitten that we come in contact with is spayed or neutered so that as a group we never add to the overpopulation problem. We intend to continue this work until every cat and kitten we can help is found a home and cared for.

🎉🐾 New Year’s Resolution: Spay & Neuter Saves Lives 🐾🎉

This New Year, make a resolution that truly matters. One simple spay or neuter can prevent hundreds of kittens from entering a world without enough homes, care, or resources.

👉 Take Action Today:
• Schedule a spay/neuter appointment for your pet cats that aren't fixed
• Help trap or transport a community cat for a Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return (TNVR) appointment to ensure additional homeless cats aren't born
• Make sure your family, friends, + neighbors fix any cat they are feeding
• Donate or volunteer to support spay/neuter efforts in your area
• Share this post to spread awareness about the importance of spaying + neutering ALL cats

Together, we can make 2026 a year of fewer kittens born outside and more cats protected.

Thank you for being part of the solution! 🐱💙

A poem from Charles Bukowski's "On Cats", published posthumously, 21 years after his passing in 1994.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
My Cats⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I know. I know. ⁣⁣
they are limited, have different ⁣⁣
needs and ⁣⁣
concerns. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
but I watch and learn from them. ⁣⁣
I like the little they know, ⁣⁣
which is so ⁣⁣
much. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
they complain but never ⁣⁣
worry, ⁣⁣
they walk with a surprising dignity. ⁣⁣
they sleep with a direct simplicity that ⁣⁣
humans just can't ⁣⁣
understand. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
their eyes are more ⁣⁣
beautiful than our eyes. ⁣⁣
and they can sleep 20 hours ⁣⁣
a day ⁣⁣
without ⁣⁣
hesitation or ⁣⁣
remorse. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
when I am feeling ⁣⁣
low ⁣⁣
all I have to do is ⁣⁣
watch my cats ⁣⁣
and my ⁣⁣
courage ⁣⁣
returns. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I study these ⁣⁣
creatures. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
they are my ⁣⁣
teachers.⁣

In order to label a cat “feral” you would have to actually know the cat’s background and history. But most people don’t know much about their random visitor. Many people assume all outdoor cats are feral and that just isn't the case! People may see a skittish, unfixed cat outdoors and assume they’ve tamed a feral cat. Probably not the case. Most truly feral cats take months or years of constant positive interaction before they will begin feeling comfortable with a caretaker in their original environment.

Simon here was labeled as feral due to being unhandleable in a shelter setting. It took 10 days of decompression time here and he's been sweet as pie ever since.

We THANK all the people for taking in cats like this and giving them a home. ❤️

Do you or someone you know need an insulated dog house for your dog? We are partnering with Dogs Deserve Better Blue Ridge to deliver to Patrick County residents a limited number of dog houses on January 10th and 11th.
