🍀 Meet Cricket & Ponderosa 🍀
Cricket and Pondi are rather unique and unexpected residents here at our rescue, as we don't typically care for reptiles! Thankfully, one of our stellar fosters was able to take in both of these gorgeous leopard geckos.

Cricket is around four years old and was originally adopted from a pet store. He is a mild mannered little guy, who can be prone to eye infections from his substrate.

Pondi is six years old and was adopted from a leopard gecko breeder. This handsome boy’s beautiful colors and friendly temperament are one of a kind!

In order of appearance:

Girls - Mars (mom), Starburst, Kit Kat, Baby Ruth, Almond Joy

Boys - Hershey (dad), Airhead, Dots, Skittles, Twix, Butterfinger, Snickers, Reese’s

Join us for a meet-and-greet!

Clover & Kids Small Animal Rescue will be at Pet Supplies Plus (Lexington - Palomar location) this Saturday, June 14th, from 12-2 PM. We will have a few adoptable animals with us, and we’d love for you to stop by to meet our pets.

Pre-approved adopters may arrange with us to meet/pickup pets at this event, but everyone is welcome to come say hello. Pet Supplies Plus is running a raffle and several giveaways all themed around small animals. Come support our pets and a local business!

Baby Update 🎉

We've officially had these rambunctious ratties in our rescue for two weeks now, and it's almost time to officially introduce them! All eight babies are cuddly, healthy kiddos who love to play, and they're days away from being weaned at 4 weeks old.

These kiddos are a month away from being available for adoption (8 weeks old), and in the meantime, we'd like YOUR help to decide what we should call them! Check out our stories to name a baby rat 🍀

To support the care of these babies, please consider donating. As the baby rats grow and we watch for signs of pregnancy from Mom and Big Sister, we anticipate our food consumption almost doubling in the next few weeks!

Currently, we go through about one 2lb bag of Mazuri lab blocks every day or a 25lb bag every two weeks. We are always in need of Mazuri blocks, Higgins Sunburst, and chew toys. Any support makes a huge difference ♥️

Baby Boy from our most recent rat intake had his first vet visit this past Tuesday, and his foot has been improving on antibiotics and pain meds. He still has some bruising on the bottom of his foot, however, and the vet agreed that it's likely broken. She wants to see him back for an X-ray once the swelling has gone down.

The total from this week's vet trip was $47.59, and the estimate for the follow-up and X-ray is $250. While the vet office was kind enough to write off a portion of the exam costs this time, we need support to help cover the X-ray and any additional treatment Baby Boy needs.

This week alone, 21 mice have been adopted, and Persimmon the Syrian ham went home earlier this month. We're so grateful for all the wonderful adopters we've worked with, and we're looking forward to updates as all the fur babies settle in!

Meet our newest intake, a precious family of rats 🍀

~

We took in a surrender of 13 rats last week—two adults, three 5-week-old babies, and eight 2-week-old pups.

Mom and Dad were purchased as pets from the feeder bin at a local pet store and were unfortunately sexed incorrectly. Mom had two accidental litters before Dad was separated, and both Mom and her 5-week-old girl are currently on pregnancy watch. Dad was living on his own in the bottom half of a critter trail cage before joining our rescue, and he's since been very excited to share a larger enclosure with his two 5-week-old boys.

Everyone is in overall good health so far, though one of the 5-week-old boys came to us with an injured back leg (photo on the last slide). The previous owner didn't know what happened to cause the injury, but thankfully baby boy's swelling has gone down significantly. He's got a vet appointment first thing this morning to get it checked out, and we're hoping for a speedy recovery ♥️
