This one makes my world go around and keeps me going

I've loved this face longer than any other ...

Let me preface this post by saying I love bees.
Unfortunately, so do a couple of my dogs.
I have carpenter bees that are especially populous this year. They are huge and very interested in everything. When they fly around, they will stop and look you in the face. They remind me of little aliens.
I've read and read about them and while they're typically docile, they don't like feeling threatened and I have a dumb little dude who loves to lunge at them (usually mouth open). So, I've been afraid of Lenox either eating one or pi***ng one off.
Not wanting to hurt them, I researched what to do to keep them away from my dog areas.
Cedarwood or Peppermint... thyme too. Well, not being able to plant anything where they like to gather the most, I'd spread Cedarwood essential oil on the cement steps earlier this week. For 4 days, not one appeared. Hmmm π€ Then today only 1 or 2 flew up, so I've reapplied the oil and they've disappeared again. I may have found the ticket! ππ€π and that's a big relief. Maybe it can help someone else.
Please consider...
Ok so ... I have 3 older dogs that are all less than enthusiastic about grooming. Especially OZ and Agatha. Maryπ Esther has always been easy but I'd not wanted to stress her out too much doing dental stuff on her.
I was skeptical. So skeptical that I didn't take before pics, I've been using that Pro-Den powder on their food and holy crap...it's actually working.
Mary π Esther, being the youngest of the 3 has showed faster improvement. OZ won't ever let me in his mouth but is now? And Agatha's brown teeth that she barely let's me pull hair from around them each night are totally improving. I'm actually amazed. I don't have a second person to help hold a fighting geriatric still to scale teeth but in 3 weeks this stuff is doing it for me.
I've done other dental rinses and enzymatic stuff...no use. But this stuff is totally working.
No, I am not an affiliate or anything. I just wanted to share my experience from the bad breath club!
Who can relate! πββοΈ
Silly Syreeta is 4 today! She is the textbook COVID pup with zero socialization and zero recall, yet she is as goofy as they get and tries sometimes not to be an idiot! π€ͺ I love you dearly, pretty girl!
Anyone local need a drop in grid for a pen or crate? I believe it's 42" and was used in a Chinese crested crate for a short time.
So many beautiful dogs from beautiful breedings behind my foundation and in the males I've used to augment my breeding program. Thank you to all who came before me and my precious bubs...
Well... this isn't cool Chewy!
My complaint sad heard today making my autoship update!

Worth 10x the price.
Step 1: purchase
Step 2: give to dog

This week started out thinking we were going to have to make some tough decisions. My ol' wee witch was having some pretty strong nerve pain - which was new. And upsetting. Tues we were able to start a new medication, recommended by Lauren Pastor Quatrocchi (Amantadine - combined with Carprofen its particularly effective for osteoarthritis pain in dogs). I knew it would take a couple of days to see any response but in the meantime, the vet had me use a pretty strong dose of tramadol.
The next two days weren't as intense for her and Friday really started the bigger difference for her.
When I got home last night, she was barking for me and there were 2 p**ps almost all the way to the front door! Not sure anyone's ever been so happy to have p**p scattered in the house! Apparently, she's decided it's not time yet! (knock on wood)!
Thank you Lauren for the recommendation for pain control. It's working ... at least for now. ππ«Άπ and thank you Lord, I'm so grateful.
They're never, ever just a Bulldog ππ₯°π

Thanks Ryan for the great job you're doing with KC!

Maud Earl painting said to be dated late 1800s to early 1900s. This shows a Poodle and a Bulldog, not at all different in form from what we see, breed and judge today; according to the standard.
What I'd give to see this in person!
If you ever wonder how much can fit into a Bulldog's mouth...let Mary π Esther demonstrate by showing you the size of her tongue! π€£
Happy πBirthday to my most beautiful girl!
All Hail The Queen!
Mary π Esther is 8 today!
5 1/2 months ago, I didn't know if she'd make it this far but her beautiful spirit has kept her thriving and by my side! Mama π Loves πYouπ Mar' Mar'!!!
Thank you for 8 years of the BEST hugs on the planet!
The sun draws us all to its warmth and brightness...
Even the matriarch!
14 years, 3 months and 11 days. Yep, counting and grateful for every single one.
My wee witch still enjoys days sitting in the sun, stealing my food, snapping my fingers off when she thinks I may have food, barking (her trademark) and armpit snuggles. But she is grumpy, as old girls can be!
Well, the hardest parts of our championship are out of the way! Corde recieved his second major during the Kentuckiana Cluster by going Winners Dog under Breeder Judge Robin Stansell.
He looks so much like his mama, Cora, and that makes him even more special to me.

I post this to help someone else. Not for sympathy. Not to be dramatic - though this was. Its not for anything other than to help.
At 1115 pm, after a long show day and taking care of my other dogs, I passed out while reading about the storm coming in the middle of the night.
Then, not sure how long it was (at the time), the barking started. I naturally assumed the lightning had started and the storm was here. Then Mable started barking intently (she's my guard dog...my alert dog) and I went rushing into their room. On my way, I could hear that noise. The one that's scary. A dog HOT π₯ HOT π₯HOT and in trouble. I'd left the AC on in there and it was cold. But someone was in trouble. Flipped the light on and s**t...blue tongue...empty water bucket. Panicked eyes. S**t, s**t, s**t, swollen face.
Overheating and probably going into anaphylaxis the way his face looked.
Picked him up. Ran to the kitchen. Got him on the grooming table and started the process of both cooling him down and getting antiflammatories in him. (Benadryl and dexamethasone in this case...) and I took his temp. 105.2 π€― pulled out frozen peas, gel packs I always have in the freezer and a couple hard ice packs. Tried to put a gel pack under a cool collar but it wouldn't fit around him that way so I put the collar on him normal and then held the gel pack to his chest while filling stainless bowls with cold water for him to stand in.
Fan on him...rotating and not always able to hold all these cold wet things...but wetting him down too. Taking his temp every few minutes. 104.8...104.2...104...then 103.4, 102.8 (at which point his breathing started returning to normal), 102.2...ah almost normal...101.7. I'm finally able to breathe.
And he's able to relax a bit and look me in the eye. We go outside to p*e in pouring cold rain and he's gaiting naturally. Thank GOD.
Now, the important part:
I always keep a cool collar or a couple shammies wet and in plastic bags in the fridge. Rotate them...chest, belly, skull, belly. Cold water on the feet or rubbing alcohol on the pads of the feet helps them dissipate heat. I wasn't thinking so much as doing simple short steps to make the biggest impact without hurting him or throwing him into shock. Fans on wet fur help too. Lots. Listen to the SOUND of the breathing. It will change slowly back to normal-ish...they are back to normal when they allow themselves to relax and rest.
He's laying on the floor now on a primo pad (it's where he chose) and we laid there together until he was nuzzling me and falling asleep. Even with the storm raging, he's sleeping. Hard. He has to be exhausted.
105Β° is DANGER β οΈβ οΈβ οΈ
Evaporative cooling is your best friend. Cold pack on the chest cools blood coming into and out of the heart.
I have NO idea what caused his throat and eyes, nose and ears to swell. No punctures. Nothing that looked like a bite. Benadryl helps. A lot. I have dexamethasone always on hand. Most people don't. Prednisone will work.
Quick, calm, consistent, decisive action. If the dog doesn't panic, its so helpful, but some do. Bad. It makes it so much harder. It's why you have to stay calm.
That's what you have to do.
We do what we have to do.
If one person remembers this and it helps in the future, it's worth telling the story.
I'm gonna try to get 2 hours rest and see if it's ok to go to the show in the morning.
Goodnight and thank MABLE for being an alarmist!
Do you have your ID miss?
I um...I uh...I'm just listening to the radio! My mom ran inside the store and just left me here alone!
No, she DID NOT! She just went to get you water (in the back of the car)!

Old ladies need love too! β€οΈ
We have a talk every night before she flops over and puts her butt in my face ... and it always ends with "not tonight mama, I'm not ready" then she farts in my face and we try to sleep!
Just chillin' ...

Dear woman who caters to my every whim... I TOLD you the light blue sheets weren't to my liking. It's not MY fault you didn't take the hint and made me pee all over them while you were grooming those DOGS. Thank you. I prefer the jewel tones. They're more fit for royalty. You may join me and rub my ears and arse now. Love π Agatha
My sweet Stiller playing with the puppies. Well, them playing with him! He's only 15 months old. Talk about an amazing temperament!

Somebody's awfully mouthy for insisting to join us outside but not wanting to come down the stairs! (Maurice and Evita).
Maurice and Hammish had a great time and all was perfect in their well checks. These two have been such easy little guys!
We all say it...our girls are such good mamas and Mary J is SUCH a good mom. She is now and she was the other two times. These boys are 10 weeks old and she will still let them nurse (though we are trying to nip that in the bud)! And she still lets them rough her up and play til the cows come home. Mavis gave me the most amazing girls to carry on for her and I am so incredibly grateful for them but I miss Mavis so much every day.
