Pet parents, winter is here! Before you go out adventuring, pack accordingly and remember that extreme cold can be dangerous for both you and your furry friends.

Temperature: Small dogs or dogs with thin coats may start to become uncomfortable in temperatures below 45ยฐF. You can try a jacket or dog coat to help keep in their body temp. Its best to find a waterproof one.

Signs of discomfort: Watch for signs that your dog is too cold, such as shivering, whining, a lowered tail, slowing down, or seeking warmth.

Ice balls: Trim the hair between your dog's toes to prevent ice balls from forming.

Boots: Consider boots for your dog if you'll be hiking on hard surfaces that could cause paw pad injuries.

P**p bags: Always bring p**p bags and pack out the waste.

Hydration: Bring fresh water for yourself and your fur-friend. A collapsible bowl is easy enough to tote along and remember, eating snow is not enough for our 4-legged companions.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday at home with your family and fur-kids!

10/23/2024

We will be celebrating Dia de los Meurtos this year in our hospital with an altar to honor deceased pets from October 25th to November 3rd.

The Day of the Dead is a holiday traditionally celebrated October 31st - November 2nd. During these days, people gather to pay respects and remember friends and family members who have died.

We are wanting to offer the community a place to commemorate their deceased pets by setting this altar for celebrating through our sadness. We have 4x6" frames available for use or you can bring your own framed photo.

Additionally we ask that your offerings be in the form of a donation to Lexington Humane Society. Currently they are in need of: Purina Dog Chow (Chicken Flavor), Milk Bone Pill Pouches and Soft canine training treats, such as Moist & Meaty as well as Purina Cat Chow (Chicken Flavor), Patรฉ-Style Wet Cat Food and Unscented Cat Litter. (They exclusively feed the Purina chicken flavor chows.) A more complete list can be found at https://lexingtonhumanesociety.org/ways-to-give/our-wish-list/

Our hope is to help everyone process their grief and celebrate the pets that have brought so much happiness into our lives.

You can do your part for Lexington Humane Society by donating an item from our Wish List. Our furry friends rely on the compassion and generosity of you, the community, and we couldnโ€™t continue our mission without your support.
