Yesterday was a very important day - the 8th birthday of Torrin and Dolly’s first litter - the TRIFECTA “Ten Little Indians” litter! I’m sorry I didn’t post about them yesterday, but yesterday turned out to be ‘one of those days’ when nothing went wuite as planned.
So here they are the Ten Little Indians” (*plus one) - Left to right: Winston, Merlin, Talon, *Sydney, Billy, Dovie, Cooper, Archie, Kele, Dustin and Guinness. *I do know that there are 11 pups in this photo. Sydney was sired by Torrin out of “Sweep” and was born a few days earlier than the 10. He was what we call a singleton - when there is only pup born. With 11 pups, we decided to place 4 pups with Sweep and Sydney and six with Dolly. Sweep, who was older than Dolly and an excellent momma, had been a bit nonchalant with only pup to care for. She had pups before, all delivered naturally, and Sydney had to come into this world via C-section - not unusual when there is only one pup. When we placed the 4 boys with her boy Sydney in the whelping box, her reaction seemed to be, “There they are! I was wondering where the rest of my pups were!” This worked out very well for both the first time mom and the more experienced mom. I know I breathed a big sigh of relief when all of the pups were on the ground.
This wonderful litter started what seemed to be a new era for me in so many ways - after 40 years of breeding and showing Corgis, I was thrilled at the constancy in the pups in this litter and in those that followed. My thanks to Lois Evans , Torrin’s breeder, as well as all of those breeders whose dogs are behind both Torrin and Dolly. Only a few dogs from most litters ever see the inside of a show ring - but those descended from this litter who have been shown have all done very well - not just in the USA, but in Japan, the UK and in Europe, as well. Happy birthday to the 10 little Indians (plus one) some of whom became Champions, Grand Champions, and International Champions - and all of them are great champions of the hearts of their owners
